About this project

"January" is a short film written and directed by Brent Eickhoff. The film follows David, a college student who begins an existential quest for purpose after interpreting the writing in a bathroom stall--"You're losing the battle"--as a sign intended specifically for him. The film is a solemn drama which takes a fearless, personal look at humanity's search for meaning in life, and the feelings of uncertainty and vulnerability that can result from change.

Shooting will occur in January (how fitting!), and editing will occur through February. As college students, we are all on a limited budget, and thus we need YOUR help to get this film made. While we already have most of our actors and equipment squared away, there are still some pieces of equipment (dollies or even a crane!) that, while not entirely necessary, would really allow us to push our film over-the-top. We are an exuberant and creative team who do not want the budget of our film to limit our vision, and equipment isn't the only thing that we need money for. In addition to some of our "wants," there are definitely some necessities, namely props, costumes, and food for our actors and crew. Our shooting schedule will be tight, and, because of this, all individuals will be pushing themselves to their limits. In order to continually commit fully, we will all need food and water, and, as I already mentioned, we're college students, so we definitely get hungry! Another part of our budget is hiring a local musician to produce the soundtrack for us. Music is a key component of any film, and we want to make sure that our soundtrack is as unique as our film.

If you donate $5, or more, you will automatically receive your name in a Special Thanks section of the credits. However, as you can read on the right, there are many more exciting rewards awaiting you if you donate! The DVD will include the finished film, as well as a Behind the Scenes feature, bloopers, and commentary.

I've been making movies since 2nd grade, and I've certainly learned a lot since that day that I filmed a video with my friends about wizards with my mom's old JVC camcorder. I have participated in the Indianapolis 48 Hour Film Project the past four summers, winning awards for two of my films (Audience Favorite Award for my film, "Amalgam," and Best Writing for my film, "Red Tape"), but I have never attempted a project as big as this. I have a twenty-four page screenplay that has been through three drafts already, a team of talented, passionate people, the time, and most of the resources needed to create "January." All I need now is YOU in order to make this film happen.

Thank you for your time, and I hope to see your name in the credits!
