Update #2: OH WOW! (Times a Million)

Posted on November 15, 2011
WE DID IT!!!!!!!!!! EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!!

Dear Friends,
I'm sorry it has taken me these many long weeks to send you a resounding, enthusiastic, overjoyed, overwhelmed, humbled and grateful THANK YOU for contributing to my album's Kickstarter.

Truth be told, every time I sat down to write this out, I was at a loss for words. How do you thank people for giving you something more than just financial support? What language do you use to express gratitude for being given hope? How do you clarify how much you love the ability to make music, what a gift it is to have people (strangers, friends, family) believe in your art enough to go through the maze-like rigor of online payment sites for you? It's a daunting task indeed.

I'll just start by saying that this whole Kickstarter business has been downright delightful. Every time one of you pledged to help me make Skeleton Bones, I pretty much stalked you in my heart. I'd think about you for the next few hours, feeling warm and fuzzy inside. I'd roll your name around in my brain like a piece of dark chocolate on my tongue, savoring the memory of YOU believing in me and making this project possible.

I guess, friends and backers, I just want to say thank you for being WITH me and being FOR me. I thought I'd just be given the ability to make an album with your generosity, but it's given me so much more than that. Encouragement, excitement, hope...with each decisive click of the "PLEDGE" button, you gave me these things, as well.

Ok, enough of that gushy stuff. UPDATES: The album is well on it's way and we're looking at a June release for the general population, and a February release for all of you elite Kickstarter kids. We've had some super-talented instrumentalists play on it so far, and will be inviting even more amazing contributors to the studio in the next couple months. All this to say: I'm so excited about the album and can't wait to share it with you.

Be checking your Kickstarter inboxes/emails in the next coming weeks for little surprises and personal requests I might have for getting prizes to you!

Stalking you in my heart since October 2011,
Annie B.

Update #1: ONE WEEK LEFT!

Posted on October 5, 2011

Hey Friends,

I have been SO touched, excited, encouraged, and amped about people (family, friends, friends-of-friends, and strangers alike) who have pledged to help me make my new album, Skeleton Bones. YOU. GUYS. ARE. AWESOME.

We have one week left and need about $2,335 to fund the album. So if you're still hesitant about pledging, let me rocket-speed some fun facts your way. BOOM!

1. You won't be charged if we don't reach our goal.  So don't be worried to pledge because you think the money will be "lost." If we reach the goal: Hurrahs and high-fives all around, your account gets charged what you pledge, we get the money to make a new album, and you get the album when it's done. If we don't reach the goal: You don't get charged, no harm no foul.

2. Every $5 really DOES add up! If you don't think that You, by contributing the cost of a latte, can change the tides of musical creation, think again! If 100 people who have $5 to give, pledge that $5, that's $500 towards our goal of making this awesome album! (Plus a lot more high-fives and hurrahs all around)

3. We will only get the money IF we reach our goal. Which means that if you're waiting to buy it on i-tunes, you could be sorely disappointed if we don't raise the 8K, can't finish the album, and I have to get a job at Hot Dog on a Stick. (Or maybe you'd find that amusing. Jerk. You really gonna make me wear that hat?).

4. Lastly, don't forget: You get cool stuff! This "Kickstarter" thing isn't about people being magnanimous philanthropists a' la Bill Gates (although I have been seriously overwhelmed by the generosity people have shown in their pledges! Yowza, I feel blessed...). It's about people being a part of the artistic process and getting something in return.  Think of it as pre-ordering a CD: you're gonna get the final creation, but this way you get exclusive updates about it every step of the way: videos from the studio, photos, sneak peeks of songs, maybe even some more fun surprises.

In conclusion, Annie Beth's new Album + You going to Kickstarter right now and pledging + Coke Slurpees = SHEER AWESOME. (I just added the Coke Slurpees for extra awesome)

Thank you for believing in me.

Love,

Annie

Annie Bethancourt is a singer/songwriter with an arresting voice and a story to tell.

From her very first release, 2002′s “The Garage Sessions,” she has been heralded as an angelic voice with “a lot of talent on her lips and at her fingertips.” Now splitting her time between the firs of Portland, Oregon and the palm trees of Costa Rica, Bethancourt lives a life of wanderlust, and her music is, just like her scenery, an ever changing mixture of people and places, strange scenarios, and quirky tales.

Sounding a bit like Joni Mitchell with a touch of Janis Joplin in her delivery, Bethancourt is influenced by a wide range of artists such as Elliot Smith, Ben Harper, Fiona Apple and Ryan Adams.

The 30 year-old singer/songwriter performs with a raw mixture of vulnerability, humor, heart-ache and longing that caused San Diego City Beat music editor Troy Johnson to proclaim, “Annie Bethancourt puts on a show that explains the difference between raw talent and deft technique. Or, rather, she inhabits both.”
