Dear Friends,
I have loved writing stories and singing songs ever since I was a little girl, recording ditties into hand-held tape recorders, organizing neighborhood impromptu marching bands, and playing the piano with my toothbrush. I have been so blessed to make music with friends in DIY low-fi basement studios and tiny ramshackle sound booths in college dorm rooms.
In 2009 I released my first "real studio" album, working with Dallas Kruse at Zion Studios in Santa Ana, CA. We ate Del Taco for breakfast and doughnuts for dinner, sang songs, drank whiskey, did hand claps, bellowed out some blues growls and crooned out some doo-ops, made our friends stomp their feet and play mandolins and saws, enlisted members of the LA Philharmonic and members of our families, and finally came out of this whole mad-cap process with an album I couldn't have been more proud to be a part of.
It was so much fun that I want to do it again.
We started working on the new album this June, and hope to finish the whole shebang by December 2011. And we need your help.
Our goal is to raise 10 grand but we're setting the Kickstarter minimum at 8,000 just to make sure we don't bite off more than we can, er...kick.
Anything we raise over our minimum will make us all the more awesomely able to pay for studio time, players, manufacturing, and distribution of the album when it's released.
You, my friends and family and fans, are my manager, my PR people, record label, and marketing team. As an independent musician I have seen first hand how it is the community of music-lovers who allow me to be able to pursue this dream that first began as a super dramatic 10 year-old with a tape recorder. I would love for you to be part of this process, whether you have the ability to pledge funds, or spread the word to anyone you think might be interested in helping.
Thank you, I can't wait to share this with you!
Annie B.
p.s. Amazing and wonderful video by Dan Baker, who is pretty much my hero.

Yeah dudes, I am. I've been so fortunate to have friends and family encourage me to make music, and even though it's hard at times, I love it! (Also, I'm pretty sure I'd make a crap doctor.)
-
YES! AND IT WAS AWESOME! (Woah, sorry I got all CAPS-y there).
I got to meet and sing with Sheryl Crow and Sarah MacLachlan, who were my childhood singer/songwriter idols, and it was magical. Like, Unicorn magical.

Annie Bethancourt is a singer/songwriter with an arresting voice and a story to tell.
From her very first release, 2002′s “The Garage Sessions,” she has been heralded as an angelic voice with “a lot of talent on her lips and at her fingertips.” Now splitting her time between the firs of Portland, Oregon and the palm trees of Costa Rica, Bethancourt lives a life of wanderlust, and her music is, just like her scenery, an ever changing mixture of people and places, strange scenarios, and quirky tales.
Sounding a bit like Joni Mitchell with a touch of Janis Joplin in her delivery, Bethancourt is influenced by a wide range of artists such as Elliot Smith, Ben Harper, Fiona Apple and Ryan Adams.
The 30 year-old singer/songwriter performs with a raw mixture of vulnerability, humor, heart-ache and longing that caused San Diego City Beat music editor Troy Johnson to proclaim, “Annie Bethancourt puts on a show that explains the difference between raw talent and deft technique. Or, rather, she inhabits both.”
