About this project
Owl+Mouse Textile Designs is a very small textile printing company in the West Bottoms of Kansas City, MO, that creates garments and accessories completely by hand. We design, dye, print, and sew everything ourselves.
We have been accepted to a show in Austin, TX at the end of May and would like to have the finances to have organic products and gas money to get there! It has always been our goal to create clothing that is hand-made and eco-friendly, however, the cost of organic cotton and natural dyes has been too high for us to purchase as a small business. We would love to raise enough money to buy organic cotton and natural dyes to create a new eco-friendly line to debut in Austin!

Owl and Mouse Textile Designs is a small printing company based in the West Bottoms of Kansas City, Missouri. All handmade scarves, shirts and accessories are created from beginning to end by Alice Youngblood and Cristin Llewellyn. They met while honing their craft at the Kansas City Art Institute, and graduated from the Fiber Department in 2008.
Each item we create begins as an original drawing. Many of our motifs are inspired by the natural world including animals and organic patterns. We also are influenced by times gone by, including playful flights of whimsy and vintage treasures! These designs are transferred to silk screens to be used for printing.
Our fabric begins as large bolts of 100% white cotton. We then custom mix colors that will be used to dye the fabric. Our fabric is dyed in 6lbs labor intensive baths in our industrial sized sink. The fabric is then washed and ready to print.
Using our prepped silk screens we begin printing our fabric with custom colored thickened dye! We use dye as opposed to ink, which becomes apart of the fabric instead of sitting on top of it. This gives the printed fabric a unique look. Once the fabric is printed, many times we go back and add a detail of either another color or an accent of embroidery!
Lastly, we use our original patterns to cut and sew each original piece!!! Our handmade process ensures that every items is unique!
