We are raising funds for our third independently-produced album. Our goal is to release a beautiful, great-sounding record on vinyl!
Sweet William's Ghost is a folk band from Portland, Oregon, featuring Dean Gorman (The Tumblers), Ali Ippolito (When the Broken Bow), and Ben Cartwright (The Tumblers, Melville). We are raising funds to record and release our third independent album. In the past, all recording costs have come out of our pockets, but it's getting tougher to come up with that money up front. We are really excited about these new songs and want to make our most ambitious and best-sounding record to date. We also have the goal of pressing this one to vinyl!
This band is a special side project for us. Dean and Ali have been good friends/musical collaborators for about 8 years now. We started SWG about 4 years ago as a one-off recording project for some of Dean's acoustic demos that didn't fit into the style of his then-current band (garage/Americana band Gas Lanyard). A self-titled SWG album was self-released in 2008. The project was so fun that it spawned a series of shows and, eventually, another album (Hills Turning Green, 2010), this time with another long-time friend, Ben Cartwright. Dean is the primary songwriter but the arrangements are very collaborative. Since the beginning of this project, we have been practicing/arranging around a lipstick-red baby grand piano in an old church on Killingsworth Street, where Ali works as musical director. We like to think this atmosphere has had some influence on how the music turns out.
