About this project

"Room to Grow" is an original, contemporary musical written by Laura Hall, best known for her work on "Whose Line is it Anyway" and Bridget Straub, a novelist and blogger at bridgetstraub.com.

As parents, Laura and I have been to just about every children’s play there is, and have realized there aren’t a lot of choices when it comes to family friendly shows. Because of this, we were inspired to write a new musical that would be as enjoyable to perform as it would be to watch. We wanted to write a show that would leave the audience singing and feeling positive, and "Room to Grow" accomplishes both of these things. The musical centers around a family in transition.
The Halstrums are a multi-generational, loving and creative family, who don’t automatically fit the structured lifestyle of their new neighbors. As they face some unexpected challenges, they do their best to remain positive and to pull together. Both funny and poignant, this show has something for every age group. Another good thing about "Room to Grow" is that it can be performed by actors of varying ages.
It is our dream to be able to introduce this new and exciting show to every school, camp and theater group around. With that goal in mind, we plan to mount a professional production here in Los Angeles, where it can receive the attention it deserves. In order to do this there will naturally be costs incurred, and this is where you come in. We will rent a theater, hire a publicist, print up tickets, programs and posters. We will need costumes, sets and musicians, as well as actors and a director. All of this comes at a price. We have set our budget at $7,500.00. The theater alone will take up a substantial part of this, but due in part to the incredible response we received from the audiences at a summer workshop of this show, we are extremely confident that it’ll all be worth it.
If we were to exceed our goal, this would only increase our ability to get it seen by more people. Anything you can do to help will be greatly appreciated!
