THE STORY

“Night at the Asylum” is a feature length film based on a true story from 1988, when a man decided to spend a night alone in an abandoned mental hospital in order to prove to himself that ghosts are only imaginary. However, the following morning, his beliefs mysteriously changed when he presented police and reporters with 35mm negatives which he photographed during his night in the hospital. They showed what appeared to be a number of "spirits" roaming the empty hallways of the asylum. However, the story was quickly forgotten after officials declared it a hoax to the local media. This film recreates his claimed experiences on a timeline of actual recorded events, and poses the unanswered question, "Are ghosts real or fake?" The project will be filmed at the Weston State Hospital in Weston, WV, which is considered to be one of the most haunted places in the United States.

ANIMATION PREVIZ

We have been hard at work preparing for production and are doing what ever it takes to make sure it's  a smooth ride--even if it means animating the entire film in advance. The following video is a pre-visualized scene from "Night at the Asylum," where the main character waits patiently in the hospital while his friend monitors him, via security cameras, from a van outside. WHERE IT WILL BE FILMED

The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, constructed between 1858 and 1881, is the largest hand-cut stone masonry building in North America, and is purportedly the second largest in the world, next to the Kremlin. It was designed by the renowned architect Richard Andrews following the Kirkbride plan, which called for long rambling wings arranged in a staggered formation, assuring that each of the connecting structures received an abundance of therapeutic sunlight and fresh air. The original hospital, designed to house 250 souls, was open to patients in 1864 and reached its peak in the 1950's with 2,400 patients in overcrowded and generally poor conditions. Changes in the treatment of mental illness and the physical deterioration of the facility forced its closure in 1994 inflicting a devastating effect on the local economy, from which it has yet to recover.

WHO WE ARE

We are two brothers from central Kentucky who love making films based around our state. The only problem is that Kentucky doesn’t offer much support for the art that we love.          

But regardless, in 2011, even though we were attempting the impossible, we managed to successfully produce our first feature film entitled, "STATE OF EMERGENCY".

With a crew of 6, a limited budget, and no help from the state, we proved to ourselves that it could be done—but with extreme difficulty. Nonetheless, something we would love to do all over again, if we could afford it.
