This is a new way for you become a real member with rights in a new experiential conservation model. It is bodacious, really out there and novel.
It may sound a little crazy – to purchase a large, 50+ acre ocean island for environmental good – but we did our research. If we can get enough people, just about two thousand people at the $35 donation, our project will succeed.
We know this is a huge project for Kickstarter, but just imagine how awesome! Together we will form a worldwide community owning a Maine Island (the first pilot, more to come), using it for environmental awareness and having fun sustaining it for “undevelopment!” Please join our “experiential conservation project” and show the world what is possible. We really can make a difference working together.
As an Earth Day project, we want the average person, worldwide, to share and keep a Maine Island undeveloped for experiential conservation. Ocean islands are environmentally fragile, rare and very special! There are only so many in the world and they are often overdeveloped for private estates, so-called “McMansions,” and exclusive resorts. The extremely wealthy and corporations own most of them.
We are challenging everyone to pitch-in. Each person in their small way will preserve an environmentally sensitive and locally important Maine Island. Everyone gets a vote and can be involved assisting in the island’s sustainable management, experiencing the local geographic community as a "sister community" to be cared for. As we like to say: “Own The Good You Do”
Our overall plan is this:
1) With Kickstarter we will raise enough money to option the purchase of a Maine Island. With the slow economy prices are at an all time low. We have already identified a handful of choices. Once we get the option on the island, we will grow our island community to fund the full purchase. This may take a little while, but we did our homework and it can be done.
2) We will also use the money to start adding sensors, web cams, digital mapping and all sorts of ways to visit and experience the island, its wildlife and watery environs on the web. This will also help each of you to collectively help manage it. We even plan to be able to visit in-person for short stays. And our longer term vision may include an environmental learning center and nature trails – you will be deciding!
With our rewards you get to have fun with project success. And if you donate $35 or more, you get a say in how we pick and run the island. Here’s what you get:
This Earth Day Maine Island Challenge Project is about you helping undevelop an entire island located off the rocky coast of Maine. You really can do it. Please donate now and participate in a new and fun experiential conservation experience!
Thanks!
