About this project

I've been touring professionally as a musician for the last 4 years. It's amazing! Not the best money maker, but you know, I love the people I meet, the sights I see, and the great times I have on the road. That makes up for financial security. I want to keep doing this...I want to start my 5th year of music in 2012! However...

Gas prices have gone up. Bars/coffee shops/music venues have hit hard times, just like everyone else, and thus either can't pay or can pay very little. I DO NOT want to raise my prices, or charge for tickets, because I feel like that defeats the purpose of my musical goal (ie - music should be accessible to everyone, no matter what). So, with your help, I can keep going! I'm aiming for a modest number - 800.00, and hoping to do better than that, as Kickstarter doesn't give you ANYTHING if you fall short of your goal...but gives you anything you make over your goal.

So, Donate & help! You could get: A signed poster! A CD! BOTH CDs! Or even...your own personal short song, by yours truly!! (I'll make sure it's at least 1 minute long...but no "Stairway To Heaven" length songs...I'm not that awesome).

Just to give you a bit of a breakdown: on my 3 month June-Sept tour, I logged over 9,000 miles and played a ton of shows/festivals. I slept in my car to cut costs unless the temps rose too high, in which case I got a (ugh) Motel 6 room. My vehicle gets approximately 21-23 mpg, and in the West, gas was on average 3.50/gal. So...basic math: at a max of 300 miles per tank, I filled up about 30 times. Each tank was about 47$. So, to play those 3 months, I spent almost 1500$ in gas. I won't tell you what I made on shows (tacky!) but I'll assure you I spent close to 70% of my profits on gas. So...anything you can help me with would be amazing! And Karma will smile down upon you. And unicorns will dance in the streets, waving banners with your names on them. And I will get to play music for you without the fear of having to turn to hooking to cover filling my tank. ;)

Thank you, thank you, thank you in advance. Also...I'm not just taking the money and running! Please check out the perks you get for donating certain things...you could get a special little song - just for yourself! (or for someone else...an awesome gift!) Just for helping me continue to entertain you :)

Thank you, everyone. You are amazing. I hope to see you on the road again soon!

FAQ

  • You will not be charged until the end date of the project, as the project does NOT succeed unless 800 or more is pledged. You will see a charge for the amount you donated on the 24th of December or soon thereafter.

  • It depends on the number of people who donate. If I don't reach my goal of 800, I won't be able to deliver, and you will not be charged. HOWEVER...I may be offering "songs for sale" for Christmas outside of Kickstarter starting in November, and if I do that, it will be guaranteed, but we'll see how this goes ;)

  • I'm gonna get it to you! Have patience! Depending on the number of "backers" I get here, I'll send postcards from fun stops on my tours. No boring ass postcards for you. Nosir.

  • Well, if your card wasn't charged, then I failed to meet my 800$ goal. But fear not! I'll offer something similar to this on my website soon after this campaign ends. Don't cry. I still love you. And you can still help me!

  • Yes, it really is expensive, especially when I log about 600+ miles per week on tour, I drive an AWD vehicle, and I drive over hills. Also, I do earn enough to cover it, but barely. Which means I arrive home after 3 months of grueling driving, playing, etc...only to find I've earned about 5$ after gas. Painful realization there, my friends.

  • I will love you just as much as I loved you before, but I'll probably sneak you hugs that others may not get. Also, Karma will love you TONS. :D (See what I did right there?)

I think the "story" section pretty much says it all. But...just in case:

My name is Julie. I've been touring professionally as a singer/songwriter for 4 years, and am trying to raise money to offset the insane gas prices so that I can continue to play in 2012 (year 5!!!). I have accomplished many, many things on this musical journey, and I'm so proud of these accomplishments. But I wouldn't have done any of those things without YOU. Without my "fans" (who are much more like distant family than "fans").

I have appeared on Sirius OutQ radio (their first in-studio musical guest!), I was featured on Martha's Vineyard Radio, OUTmusic's podcast, & the LesbianLounge podcast, to name a very few. I was featured on Curvemag.com, TheSeattleLesbian.com, and in Baltimore's "Gay Pages." I've been invited & performed at Pride festivals and womens' music festivals around the US, and recently was involved in Portland's first Queer Music Festival. My music is currently being played on stations from Sweden to Turkey to Australia to Poland. No joking. :) Please help me continue my musical journey!
