A man returns home to take care of his father's body during the zombie apocalypse.
Alex, a travel-worn survivor of the zombie apocalypse, returns to his abandoned childhood home. There, he discovers the plague-ridden body of his recently deceased father. Now, in a race against time, Alex must prepare to say goodbye to his father before he becomes one of the living dead.
Monsters Are Real is a zombie film that explores how we say goodbye to our loved ones in a world without hospitals, doctors, and funeral homes. The film also deals with the emotional toll isolation has on an individual. Influenced by Romanian New-Wave directors like Cristian Mungiu (4 Months, 3 Weeks, & 2 Days) and Corneliu Porumboiu (Police, Adjective), the film will be shot in a minimalist style to create a realistic portrayal of a fantastical situation.
For the past five years I've been creating short films and spec commercials with mostly the help of my friends and family on zero budget. With your contribution this will give us the opportunity to tell this story using proper gear and more sophisticated special effects.
Here is how your contribution will be used to make the film:

The film will be shot in full HD using the RED Scarlet.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
One of the biggest challenges for our film is presenting the audience with a believable portrayal of a fantasy setting -- such as the zombie apocalypse -- using limited resources. To achieve this we've decided to tell a simplified, but human story to capture the essence of living under such surreal circumstances. We've also put careful attention to detail in the choices of makeup, wardrobe, and props to create a more authentic world. Your contributions will help us hire the right people and to allocate the best resources to create a compelling film.
One risk and challenge we face is shooting on location, especially when it comes to the weather in December on the East Coast. Inclement weather can cause delays on production and can sometimes bring down the morale of a cast and crew. Hopefully we've under-scheduled our exterior production days to give us more time to possibly wait out any unfortunate conditions. We are also planning to rent rain gear for our crew and our equipment to keep everyone and everything as dry as possible, and we are willing to adapt our story with the shooting days' weather conditions to keep the production rolling.
