Update #23: 2011 made 2012 a big year for RIOT!

Posted on January 8

Happy Belated New Years to you all from us, at 'Riot on the Dance Floor'. It has been a bit since we have sent out an update on Kickstarter, so I wanted to kick off January with some info on the film’s progress and to give you an idea what we are using some of your donations for.

Because of your donations, we have a new computer system to edit our film, something that was seriously needed to handle the volume of footage we have produced. We have a new Steadicam rig for shooting some of our scenic shots in the coming spring. We also had an original poster created by famed painter Jason Edmiston. Please check out his work when you get a chance jasonedmsiton.com. Jason has done work for Famous Monsters Magazine, The VillageVoice and Revolver Magazine to name a few. We commissioned Kevin Seconds of 7 Seconds to write and record an original song for the film AND we will be licensing a few more songs from bands like Killing Joke for the film's soundtrack. ALL that and we will have enough left over to pay our taxes. Yes, we have to pay taxes on the money we raised... Uncle Sam owns a piece of the film too. Hah!

Currently we are editing the film, a process that will take us well into Springtime/Summer but we are hoping to have a rough cut of the film ready for final animation and mix by August. We are still doing some last minute interviews and re-shoots for the film. The most recent interview was in LA with Jack Irons of the Red Hot Chili Peppers & Pearl Jam, but the “interview” portion of the production is largely winding down. Ken Salerno and I are sorting through thousands of negatives and slides for the film and are still discovering rare news clippings and music tracks about the club and Randy– so the production still is evolving.

On the swag front, if you have donated at some of the higher funding levels from our Kickstarter campaign, we have sent out the majority of the prints, decks and posters to people. We still have a few to get out to some of the late comers to our survey but we hope to have the last of them out by the end of Jan. By the way, if you are interested in purchasing any of the prints or decks we made, Ken Salerno will have an online shop in the coming months to purchase images from his collection. We will keep you up to date on its launch.

Lastly, one of our donors, Bob Fine, is running a campaign on Kickstarter for his social media magazine “The Social Media Monthly”.

A quote from Bob – “I came up with the idea to do a printed, yes printed, social media magazine while at SXSW last year. My cohorts and I went from concept to print in just 53 days, and the launch issue has been making a great splash after debuting on May 20th, 2011, at BlogWorld in New York. Three weeks later, we secured national distribution for the magazine with Barnes and Noble." It was named one the hottest magazine launches of 2011.
If you can, help Bob get his funding for his next issue here.

Thanks everyone for your continuing support and dedication to the film and remember, you can keep up-to-date with the film’s progress at www.citygardensfilm.com .

Back to work,

Steve

I got my stuff at the post office and when I got into the car my favororite Ween song was playing on XM radio, Push The Little Daisies. I want that song played at my funeral.

They used to say on the radion that some relative of one the Red Hot Chili peppers lived near Trenton and they could stay there free when they played City Gardens. They used to play on weknights in the summer in maybe '83? I remember seeing an early show or a practice set and there were maybe 15 people there.
