Masha and Sandro go to the International Theater Festival Workshop in Czech Republic to teach, support comrades and perform their show.
We've been invited to participate in a new festival organized on the ruins of a medieval castle in the Czech republic. The castle is being slowly rebuilt by the volunteers from around the world. The Theater festival is a way to attract more attention to the unique qualities of the space and make it into a new center for the arts. Exchange of theatrical practices is the main goal of this festival. Besides nightly performances every participating theater offers classes and workshops as a way of creative exchange between different theatrical schools. We want to introduce our physical theater style to our european colleagues. We will lure them in by showing a highly articulate and heartwarming show about a guy torn between the money making charade and his true passion for bad bad bad music. Needless to say he is an exquisite character, as everyone else in the story. We then proceed with an intense training offered every morning to all participants of the festival with the resultant performance on the last evening of the festival. Most of the theaters invited, work in some capacity with disadvantaged youth from their respective countries. Eastern Europe is still very much in the grips of the, "new capitalist," era which brings a lot of hardship and inequality felt specially bitterly by the younger population. Our hope is to offer a way of using the reality around, with all of its disadvantages, as material and inspiration for ones creative search. All of our performances and classes will be free of charge in order for mostly moneyless youth of Poland, Ukraine, Romania to have a chance to participate. Being a small theater company the price of travel to eastern europe from America is a challenging factor for us, especially if we want to participate in any non-commercial theater festival. We need to raise funds to cover our travel fare and our living expenses. Through new found contacts we hope to perform in smaller towns throughout Eastern Europe, especially Poland and Ukraine.
