Update #3: What happens now
I'm sure you've all been wondering what's happening with the film now that we've made our goal. We've been hard at work over the last few weeks putting the finishing touches on the edit and prepping for final output and delivery.
I'm proud to announce that Buzkashi Boys will be finished this week!
You will all be contacted soon about what happens next. We'll be getting everyone their rewards over the coming months, and I will keep you updated on the film's progress.
The first exciting bit of news I'd like to share is that we have been accepted into both the Beijing International Film Festival and the Big Island Film Festival in Hawaii. We screen in Beijing at the end of the month and in Hawaii at the end of May. We are waiting to hear back from many other festivals as well.
So thank you again for helping make Buzkashi Boys a reality. And I look forward to sharing the continued journey of the film with all of you!
Yours Sincerely,
Sam French
Update #2: We made it!
Buzkashi Boys has achieved liftoff!
Thank you to everyone who supported us. This has been an amazing week, and I have been truly humbled by the community which has rallied around the film.
We've reached our initial goal, but we still need additional funds to get the film seen as widely as possible. Please continue spreading the word - every bit helps!
Yours Sincerely,
Sam
Update #1: Almost there!
Hello,
I have been overwhelmed by the amazing amount of support we've received for Buzkashi Boys in such a short time. Your personal messages and incredibly generous donations have been humbling and given us a huge boost as we close in on the finish line. Thank you.
It has been a long journey to get to this point, and we're almost there. Every bit helps, so please consider posting the kickstarter page on your social networks and telling your friends how to help. Your support is incredibly appreciated, and I look forward to staying in contact with all of you as the film gets released.
Hopefully, together we can show the world that Afghanistan is not just a theater of war, but a place where people can dare to dream.
Ride on!
Sincerely yours,
Sam

The Afghan Film Project is a non-profit foundation formed to tell uniquely Afghan stories while building the capacity of Afghanistan's film industry.
Exploring our common humanity through film has the potential to change the way the West sees Afghanistan, and perhaps even more importantly the way Afghans see themselves. While we spend billions creating a theater of war, even a modest investment in empowering Afghans to tell their stories can create an important context for dialogue about Afghan identity and the country's role in the world.
Based in Kabul, we utilize the expertise of internationally recognized film professionals with a passion for Afghanistan to train and support Afghan filmmakers. By providing hands-on training and experience to local filmmakers in all aspects of film production, the Afghan Film Project aims to foster an environment in which films of the highest standard can be produced for international and domestic audiences.
