Hey friends, Joseph and Tammy here! Thanks for checking out our Kickstarter page! So, in case you missed the video above, the basic scoop is that we are making our first record together. During our European tour, everyone told us "You have to make a record together!" So, the "Funny Math" project was born. Our first stop was Dark Horse Studios - one of the top Nashville studios (Matchbox 20, Taylor Swift, Faith Hill). We got an amazing opportunity to record there and so we decided to go for it!
Our debut album, "Funny Math" EP, will have 7 songs - 2 written by Tammy, 2 by Joseph, 2 written together, and 1 rockin gospel compilation. There are hints of The Eagles, Dolly Parton/Kenny Rogers, the Andrews Sisters, a taste of an old time gospel sing-a-long, and of course a bit of Joseph's soulfulness and Tammy's folky-ness. We've got an amazing crew of musicians and we're excited about the cool retro sounds that have been forming in the studio.
So here's the deal. We are so excited to get these new songs out, but the album budget exceeds what we can do on our own. The total cost of the project will be around $7000 for top musicians, a producer, an engineer, for mixing, mastering, the printing of the CD, and for hiring a publicist and a licensing company to help promote our songs for TV and movies. Tammy and Joseph's musical duo was born through a series of beautiful events. It all began with both of them independently meeting their Polish musician friend, Tom, at a music & arts festival in Hungary. After traveling and playing on musical projects with him individually, the two were introduced by Tom. Over crepes at a french cafe in Nashville and playing songs in the livingroom, something romantic and musical began to surface.
Tammy Rochelle, born and raised on the coast of North Carolina, has lived and travelled all over the world. Joseph Bamber hails from Wyoming, was raised in Missouri, and has lived in many different places on the globe. They currently call Nashville, TN home.
Joseph grew up playing piano to old-time country music in the basement with his family. After starting a rock band with his brother, he joined an a cappella group and a black gospel choir in college at vanderbilt, and then played in Eastern Europe for over 80,000 young people with OneHope. Tammy started singing at age 3 in church, performed at talent shows through high school and picked up piano and guitar along the way. She wrote her first song while in university at 18, began playing shows and recording her songs, and over the past 11 years she has played her music throughout the world via 9 European tours and 5 solo albums.
So, they met, chemistry sparked, they played shows in Nicaragua, Nashville and this summer (2011) they did a European tour together through Germany, Switzerland and Poland. The audiences raved that the duo sounded like "milk and honey" and encouraged them to make a record together. Now, just a month later, they are in the studios @ the amazing Dark Horse recording studios making their VERY FIRST album together, "Funny Math"! A U.S. tour will begin THIS January and will be followed by a European Summer Tour 2012!
