A new musical fever-dream by Nellie Tinder, Evelyn is a play about the consequences of being somebody, and the horror of being nobody.

The women of Pennsylvania are making good progress - with talk therapy, group therapy, dance therapy and their surreptitious visits to the surrounding druidical wood, when luminous film actress Evelyn Henries arrives and reeks havoc with her iridescent star quality.  Will the fortress hold?  Or will Evelyn's Magick destroy the fragile strands of sanity these women have left?  

Evelyn is a mash-up/ riff/ love letter to the classic take down tale,* the stranger comes to town story,** and every hidden memory we’ve ever written down in a notebook spliced and bitten off in a homey kind of way***.  The performers will use their voices and whatever catch as catch-can instruments we find to create a rich, multilayered and exclusively organic soundtrack. Nellie Tinder’s unique stylization of movement and text explores the relationship of reality to artifice, even in the most dramatic of situations.

The Bushwick Starr will present Evelyn in their spring season, February 21st to March 10th, 2012.

We have shown excerpts of Evelyn at the Obie-Award winning performance series Little Theater and the acclaimed Catch! Performance series, and have gotten overwhelmingly positive feedback about the work we’ve done so far.   We have a fantastic production team, incredible performers, and we need your help to make this production happen. Your contribution will help purchase our sets, costumes, and lights; secure rehearsal space, assist in our marketing and audience development, compensate the amazing team who is devoting their time and energy to this production, and HELP SECURE THE FUTURE OF NELLIE TINDER to continue to make work and grow as a company.
