About this project
Hi, my name is Randy Grube. In 2006 I started the XDL Championship Series, an action sports series based on motorcycle stunt riding. It features some of the most gifted athletes in the world riding their street bikes in unimaginable ways. Since 2006, XDL has turned into one of the fastest growing action sports, but it was never easy. We were always seen as outsiders, having to prove ourselves. Big companies and the motorcycle industry in general didn’t take us seriously. And everyone had an excuse why they didn’t want to put us on TV.
Three seasons ago I made an important discovery, which is that our athletes are amazing riders and incredible people. And of course there is a fair share of drama amongst everyone. For two years I tried to get a show put on TV. Not about the motorcycle riding, but about the athletes and their lives. No network wanted to take that step.
Finally, in 2010 I had enough and we committed to a show on Versus that we produced ourselves. Talk about on the job training. The show was a big success so now we are in the process of filming season 2.
I am posting up on kickstarter because I think this is the right environment for us. I’m looking to raise $15,000 to help cover production costs for season 2. The money will go to hire additional camera people and cover rental equipment and travel. This is important because we face the difficult challenge of having to cover a lot of athletes and visiting them at their homes. This means we have to criss-cross the US from Cali to Florida to New Hampshire to Texas to Arizona and back. With a bunch of people and equipment. On an airplane. That gets really expensive. And we're hoping to do our first demo in India this year, which costs even more.
Why should you care? Because we’ve shown people that we run a sport that has massive appeal in the US and in fact all over the globe. And we’ve shown that we can make a good TV show out of it. All without some big corporation or network watching over us. We did it because we believed in it and we knew a lot of you out there do as well. So here is our opportunity to show that you can in fact develop a global action sport without having to be a big corporate player.

What can I say, I love cars and motorcycles. After growing up in Germany I moved to the US for college and then to Japan for my first real job at a major Japanese ad agency working on the Nissan account. What an experience. I returned to the US a couple years later to work for a company that restored and sold vintage cars and then finally opened my own shop called Paramax in 1992. Paramax took on all kinds of projects in the car and motorcycle industry and in the early 2000s we started realizing that there was a big opportunity to build a sports league in the youth motorcycle market. So we did and XDL was born. Today it is the only sport of its kind, with a global following and a huge opportunity in Asia.
