A large-scale video project that explores the legacy and impending end of the Space Shuttle Program.
For the past year I have been working on a multi-faceted project that centers around the legacy and impending end of NASA's Space Shuttle Program. The most important piece in the series is a large scale video installation that depicts all of the space shuttle launches at once, all 134 of them titled "Grand Finale."
As of today, there have been 132 launches. Launch number 133 is scheduled for November 2 and the final launch, 134, is scheduled for February 27th. I have been invited by the Administrator of NASA to attend and record the event as part of my project.
The money that I am raising through Kickstarter will be used for airfare for myself and an assistant, hotel, car rental, and equipment rental. The last launch only happens once--there are no re-shoots. I need to be able to record it at the highest quality. The majority of the funds will go toward the rental of a Canon 5D Mark II and a Portable Digital Audio Recorder to capture the images and sound of the launch.
Afterwards, I will include my footage into the composite work as well as in a separate video/sound installation.
