About this project

I make works that require hours of what some people call obsessive compulsive activity. 7,000 hand cut pieces of canvas sewn together-things like that. WHAT??? Not EVERYONE spends 5 hours a day sewing canvas they cut apart back together?? Why the heck not?

Anyway I like to think of this “obsessive compulsive” behavior as “productive.” All of this Productivity has killed my sewing machine. R.I.P. Husqvarna 230 Electronic.

I have a show coming up in January and desperately need to replace old Husqy with a more appropriate machine- something that can sew through 5 layers of painted canvas, something with…a walking foot…who knew!

Help me buy an industrial sewing machine so I can finish my works for the show. To celebrate I’ll host an art-making extravaganza at Fleisher Art Memorial in Philadelphia. Students, community members and you (if you can make it) are invited to participate in creating a new work. Participants can bring their own scraps of canvas and old jeans or they can use the ones I provide. We’ll build a structure inspired by the awesome (and sparkly) Wissahickon schist that pops up here and there around Philadelphia.

Choose a print from a selection of photographs of my work. These photos are details, sneak peeks, and works-in-progress shots. I’ll post new options frequently. Keep checking the updates tab above (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/442876/the-great-wissahickon-project/posts) and feel free to contact me if you’ve seen an image on my website or blog that you’d prefer.
