In California on January 28-30, the album will be recorded to 2” tape at The Atomic Garden, run by Jack Shirley who plays in Comadre. Two of the songs from this recording session will be featured on a split 7” vinyl with Blaster The Rocket Man, who play sci-fi, mind-altering, horror punk.

Chasing a Vision!
Destroy Nate Allen wants to show you a good time and make you smile. We’re proud of our previous records but we’ve been longing to fully capture our live energy with great studio quality. This is our chance!
So here’s the plan:
We will be recording around 16 songs live in the studio. The album will feature guitar, bass, and drums from Gnarboots. Plenty of horns, keys, backing vocals and fun ideas will be added to make this record a complete celebration.
Aaron from Gnarboots shared his vision for our album:
“I am totally in favor of you recording these songs with a full band. I think they would be better and they would better fulfill your vision of being joyous and energetic. I personally think it would be better if you re-recorded all the songs with a live band, instead of just some. It would be cool if you had drums, bass, a clean electric guitar, percussion, some keys and even some horns....and lots of backing vocals. I like there just being lots of instruments and people. I think that just gives you that feeling of happiness.”
When did you find time to write this album?
We wrote the album on tour this summer because we knew we’d be very busy with school when we got back to Portland. For most of July and August, we wrote songs every day in the van. It was an exhausting and intense process. Tessa and I chose to co-write the record, which was difficult. We’ve often said it’s easier to be married than to play music together; this was one of those cases. We spent 5 days recording in Eureka, CA with Josh Lory. It was a great way to end the tour and we’re very proud of those recordings. We originally thought the recordings with Josh would become the new album, but the opportunity to record with Gnarboots takes things to a whole new level.
So what about the Eureka recording?
We plan to release it as an acoustic alternative to the Gnarboots recording, hopefully in 2012. They are the best acoustic recordings we have. When we play live, it's still just Nate and Tessa, so for people who want to hear what they just saw (two voices and a guitar), the Eureka recording is for them.
What are the new songs about?
School, Procrastination, Chick Flicks, Getting Fired, Vegetables, Exercise, Gentlemen’s Clubs, Estranged Friends, Traffic, Settlers of Catan, Grocery Stores, Coffee, The Internet, Escaping Texas, Hospital Food, Guns, Satan, Death, Apartments, Robots, Jesus, Swords, Priorities, and much more… you’ll just have to wait and see.
Tell Me More Destroy Nate Allen?
Circle pits, power slides, and rock n’ roll jumps generally aren’t associated with acoustic music. Then again, Destroy Nate Allen aren’t your average folkies. Destroy Nate Allen started as the solo/quiet acoustic musings of Nate Allen and has evolved and twisted into a two piece rock n’ roll attack, sharply focused on showing people a good time.
Combining Tessa’s impulsive theatrical urges with Nate’s love for early 90′s pop punk, DNA play folk music like punk rock – complete with all the blood, sweat and broken strings of a great basement show. Their live show shines with fun punk rock urgency. Together Nate and Tessa (who are married) sing brutally honest true stories (and lots of love songs) that are built around 3 chord hooks so sticky sweet they’ll be stuck in your head for days.
Who is Nate Allen and why do you want to Destroy him?Hi. I’m Nate Allen. I don’t want to destroy myself; but over time our music has left me quite a string of injuries, several broken guitars, and four dead vans.
I started this band in 2006, as a quiet, solo artist. Since then much has changed. For starters, Tessa joined the band when we got married in 2008. She makes things more fun and theatrical; our music is also not so quiet as a result. We’ve spent a little under half our married life on the road.
So I heard you both mention school?
Nate is currently attending two schools attempting to finish a Bachelor’s degree in Business. He started in on 30 credits two days after our last tour ended. He attends Concordia University and Portland Community College and expects to graduate in June.Tessa also just started back to school pursuing a BS in Human Development. She’s attending Warner Pacific University.
What did you do before playing in Destroy Nate Allen?
I played acoustic music as Nate Allen. Prior to that, I ran a non-profit called Rock4Reason in Roseburg, OR throwing all-ages concerts. I really enjoyed that project. I got to work with a lot of great bands. Click here for the complete list.
When do you plan to hit the road next?
Destroy Nate Allen will be touring the US from June through August in 2011. Until then, we’ll be playing regional shows.
Where can I get your old albums?
www.destroynateallen.com/music has all six of our full lengths and many other recordings up for free or donation download.
Which songs will be on the Blaster The Rocket Man 7"?
It's a mystery!
Can you tell me more about Gnarboots?
Gnarboots was recently called “The Dead Milkmen of the new generation.” Their debut full length will be coming out this year on Asian Man Records. They are very creative musicians who love to surprise their audiences with genre-jumping experiences. They recently covered Lust Control’s The Big M!Check out this video of Tessa screaming along to Lust Control.

“Why even continue to call your self a punk act when clearly you are playing joke songs with only an acoustic. Where is the pissed off lyrics and distorted guitars and blistering drums.” – Spunkzine
“One of the best cd's to brighten my doormat in ages.” – Burning World (UK)

“Allen spun and karate kicked in a one-man mosh pit, and was completely drenched in sweat by the end of the set." – Hey Reverb (Denver Post)
“Catchy sing-a-along punk tunes that tear through acoustic guitar strings like lumberjacks tearing down a forest,“ – PDX Pipeline
“This adorably married couple from Portland, Oregon represent everything that I love about truly great punk rock. They screamed, they jumped around (a lot) and they had more fun than anyone within a five mile radius. This wasn’t so much them putting on a show as having a blast with a bunch of old friends they just met. They ran around the inside of the circle they had created, singing in peoples' faces and getting the crowd to sing along with them. They sang songs about eating more vegetables, songs about love and songs about which one of them was more punk rock (this tour it was Nate). Despite knowing who was coming next, I was genuinely sad when their set ended. Destroy Nate Allen are definitely a must see if they ever come back to Chicago.” – Windy City Rock
