Six Years Dreaming is a dance and music collaboration between choreographer Gretchen Garnett and composer Brendan Berry. This new modern dance will premiere on April 8-9, 2011, at CounterPULSE in San Francisco.

The piece is an investigation into one of the most common of human experiences, but one that we know very little about – dreaming. Though we may not understand where our dreams come from, we do know that there are common themes to our dreams and that these themes remain constant across history and cultures. Six Years Dreaming seeks to explore these common themes – the negative emotions that so often occur including anxiety, pain, abandonment and fear and also the joy and happiness which are less common in our nocturnal imaginations.

The choreography is influenced by science, psychology, religion and pop culture and how all of these disciplines attempt to interpret and make meaning out of what our minds create when they are completely isolated from the outside world. The movement vocabulary in the piece is derived from some of the most common images that come up in our dreams in addition to writings by the dancers about their most vivid dreams. The dancers create relationships, shapes, gestures and designs which have a surreal quality and create an environment of anxiety and oddity.

This show will take $10,000 to produce and we are asking for $2,500 through individual donors. Your donation will go directly toward paying the dancers, renting the rehearsal space and the theater and commissioning the musical score. Please check out all of the great thank you gifts.
