At Brevard Music Center, a foremost summer music study program, I will compose a new work for large chamber ensemble for performance.

This summer I will be studying composition with the distinguished faculty of the Brevard Music Center’s Composition Institute. During this six-week collaborative mentorship experience, I will be engaged in the composing of my newest major work with its premier scheduled as part of the Center’s festival events. This large chamber ensemble will be written for single winds (flute, oboe/English horn, clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon), single brass (horn, trumpet, trombone), percussion, harp, piano, and string quintet (2 violins, viola, cello, and bass).

Brevard Music Center has graciously awarded me a scholarship and work-study position that will offset a portion of my educational expenses. However, in order for me to attend, I must secure additional funding to cover the remaining balance of tuition fees, travel from Eugene to North Carolina, and other costs related to my studies. It is my goal to dedicate the majority of my time and energy at Brevard to developing my craft as a composer through the creation of this major new work. By backing this project, you will be backing what I hope will be a valued contribution to the repertoire of American classical music.

Summer music festivals and programs of this design are essential to the growth of a musician's career. As I experienced at last year’s Bowdoin International Music Festival, they provide intense study in a collaborative atmosphere, exposure to the greatest masterworks of classical music, and bring performers and composers together to form lifelong connections both personal and professional.
