About this project
Rock n' roll is the most powerful force in the world. What other form of art embodies youth, rebellion, sex, war, politics, and culture, all in one? Well.....
Doug Ratner & The Watchmen are a down & dirty, rock n' roll band with a lot to say. Having released their first album, Eye to Eye, to rave reviews, and receiving success in the college/independent radio market, they have decided to release a new E.P. for 2012.
Not exactly a concept album, but a collection of songs that focus on some very strong societal issues that are very relevant to today's climate. The music focuses on bullying, depression, greed, technology, gender roles, parental relationships, sexual conduct, and suicide. Though considered "taboo" subjects by some conservatives, for Doug Ratner & The Watchmen, nothing is off limits when it comes to rock n' roll.
The $10,000 that they are trying to raise is going to cover the costs of the recording/mastering, as well as the designing of the new website, album art, t-shirts, stickers, manufacturing of the cd's, marketing campaigns, and other various merchandise. This stuff ain't cheap if you want to do it right!
There's no reason to hold back, these guys are going to make a big statement with this E.P. It might offend people, but it's also going to inspire people. The lesson is that you should NEVER keep your mouth shut about issues close to your heart.
No matter how much you are able to contribute, we just want you to be part of the journey.
Someone recently pledged $150, so one of the perks is a riff/lick made up personally for them!
FAQ
-
It's easy to write music for the jock. Or the beauty queen. But what about the kid who sits in the corner of the lunch room eating by himself? He needs rock n' roll. The spirit, the energy, the escape, that's what it's about. We hope that some of these songs inspire the "not cool" kid and teach him that being weird is cool. In fact, we're all weird in our way, and if you won't admit, then you're lost.

Connected as Doug Ratner (1833 friends)
Doug Ratner & The Watchmen, or DRAW, are without a doubt the most exciting down & dirty rock n' roll band to emerge on the New England music scene in a while. They have sold out 4 shows at the Iron Horse Music Hall, played the Warped Tour at the Nassau Coliseum, and most recently played for 3,000 fans at the Springfield Civic Center for the opening ceremonies of the JCC Maccabi Games. A gig USUALLY offered to major libel signed acts, but DRAW is a force to be reckoned with.
Beyond their ability to put on an incredible live show and make awesome recordings, they have a certain mission statement.
"Being weird is cool." Don't ever let someone tell you otherwise. If you've got something to say, and you want to express that through your clothes or the music you choose to listen to, then rock on!
At a recent show for 500 high school kids, Doug took a couple minutes to share these words, and he recalls; "One kid looked at me in the eyes after I made my "weird is cool" comment, and he threw his hands up and screamed in agreement. This kid got it. And if he gets it, then my job is done."
That's rock n' roll. Take all the chances you need to take in order to free your soul from whatever may be holding you back.
