Strike Suit Zero - Community Q&A 1
A little while back, we asked our community what they wanted to know about the game. These questions were then thrown to Born Ready Games' Dan Lodge - Lead Artist - and Christopher Redden - Lead Designer - who sat in front of a camera to answer them.
For the next Q&A, we'd obviously love to address questions from our Kickstarter backers. You can either pop them in the comments below this update, or reach out to us on Twitter and Facebook. We'll then choose the most interesting questions, and address them in the next video.
Thanks!

1. I would really like to be able to customize my mech. I would like to know if there will be any, and if yes, how deep?. ex just color changing, or would you have designs we could stick on, or make ourselves, custom paint jobs would be neat. Maybe cosmetic/stat changing attachments. Anything like that
2. Another will be how the mechs will be classified/ranked or if there will be anything like that. ex. a speed type mech, one with more weapon attachments, one that is high in hp and armor. I play a lot of rpg so that may just be that side talking, but i am still curious if you will be implementing anything like that. 2.1.A follow up to that would just be the variety of mechs there are in general.
3.Servers. How do you plan on hosting the game and multiplayer matches?
If you can answer these that would be awesome. Thank You

Since we are "piloting" mecha and not simply space fighters, I was wondering if there will be any planetside or indoor (maybe inside a big capital ship) combat where you can walk around as well as fly within that space/area? I'd rather it not be in the game if it would take away development from other parts of the game of course.. but if it is already being planned, I would like to know.
I certainly don't want it to be just another mecha game for the sake of it.. but the fact that these things are mecha means they can walk around.. would be great to see multi-part missions where for the most of the mission you are "flying" around.. but in other parts of the mission, you go inside or go planetside and fight in that way..

Huh, for me the design/gameplay kind of screams Macross or Zone of Enders, I'm surprised those two didn't expressly make it into the influence section.
Anyway, questions.
What are your plans for the "logistics", like content delivery, updating system, shop system? (Direct download off your website with custom updater? Dependency on steam or some other third party? )
What is your stance on DRM? (Will there maybe, possibly be a hassle-free GOG version?)
Are there plans for ridiculously large enemies like moon bases, giant space stations, mother ships or space shipyard super structures? (If yes: Will they have exploreable parts, like some Starfox endbosses, or the Star Wars Deathstar?)
What degree of freedom do we have in missions? How flexible is the story, mission and ingame progression system? (does it account for outside the box approaches, offer customized/branching escalation like different reinforcements arriving dependent on player action, or allow for failure in the main objective and still offer some sort of story progression?
Examples: Completely fictional "protect a station" scenario. One could shoot down the approaching waves off attack vessels 'as intended' - or make a beeline to the carrier ship/wormhole/enemy station spawning those attackers and shoot that down instead, hoping the station can handle whatever gets by the player - or draw a third party into the fight either by in-game dialogue or actual flight manoeuvres. Or maybe there's a certain chance a special ship with in-game importance will spawn, thus changing the mission layout or allowing the station to be destroyed as long as that ship is captured. Will the game offer branching story progression based on what actually happened in the mission? If I lose a wingman in a mission, will that impact the story in a meaningful way, or will another redshirt take his/her place when I start the next mission? Will destroying a Pirate NPC station in some random unimportant mission significantly impact the pirate presence in a system when I return to it later, thus strengthening my own faction or maybe even the enemy faction - or altering the offered missions/weapons?)

Whoa that's a lot of questions. Anyway, i'm sure this game would get voted up quickly on Steam Greenlight should you guys decided to take that initiative. It all looks very swift, clean, modern, and professional. The UI idea is fantastic. I love it!

Thanks for the oportunity to share our questions, and thanks so much for bringing back my favourite genre of games.
Here are my questions:
1- Will there be a cockpitt view available? or one that is not a follow camera? there are some of us that apreciate realism in our simulators.
2- You recently published that modding tools will be open for the modding comunity. Will they be there from day one? and if so... Will you support the modding comunity in any way? Steam Workshop, Official forums etc....?
3- I´ve notice that the trailing of the engines only aplies to the squad AI fighters... will there be an option or way to have engine trails on the mech based fighters too? It is an awesome aesthetic feature, and seing the mech without it is a bit.... party breaker (i imagne some camera blocking problem here?)
Thanks again for the chance.

1. Will there be an option to upgrade to a physical version of the game?
2. Will there be pre-rendered cutscenes
3. How many Voice Actors have you had record for SSZ

Thanks for opening the floor for questions. I've seen a lot of impressive footage from the videos made and I'm reminded of FreeSpace which is among my top three favorite simulators. It's refreshing that the games I know and love were your inspiration.
I've seen a lot of good questions so far (especially the one about replays, ship customization, and story). There are some things that I have enjoyed in past games that I wanted to ask about:
1. I've seen a lot of footage showing the flight and combat, but what about the pre-flight briefings (before) and debriefings (after)? Can we expect animated cut scenes? This is an element that not only helps players enjoy the story more, but helps them feel more part of it.
2. This expands on #1. In FreeSpace, Wing Commander, and other games, the menu between screens was built around the ship you're stationed on. It was really cool to see animations (doors opening and characters moving in response to your cursor). Will we get something like that? It will breath more life into the experience than simply saying: "here's your mission, good luck."
3. I really like having characters with interesting backgrounds and fun or sometimes obnoxious personalities. This has added to my enjoyment of past games and draws out a smile, laugh, or eye roll during the game. I've been noticing that a lot of gamers really take to the witty dialog. Will there be interesting backgrounds and/or personalities in Strike Suit Zero?
4. Will we be able to issue orders? For example, orders that direct a wing man/woman to cover you or engage a particular target.
5. Will the player perform or visually experience the take off and landing?
6. Will there be statistics that track performance and medals for excellence?
I was planning to hit you with three questions, but we see how that worked out!
Once again, thank you for this opportunity, and for your vision.

1) Will this game be on stream?
2) How many levels and how many bosses? If there is a boss will there be Boss Rush mode?
3)Will there be expansion after this game release.
4) Will there be add-on to the suit?
5) How many different weapon can that mech have?
thanks.
Creator Ren-Wei Yang on October 29, 2012
1) Will there be a DRM free version, either officially or via GOG?
2) Are there any customization component? Be able to approach even the same mission from different setup other than different suit would be interesting.
3) Any plan for suit deco? I think a lot of mech fan would love to decorate their own suit when post screenshots.
4) Any replay mechanism with camera control to do machinima? This plus the mission editor would be double awesome.
Creator Starkillr on October 29, 2012
The key things I'd like to hear more about:
1) Story synopsis: what the heck is this game about? Why am I flying around shooting stuff? Why do I have a special strike suit? All the inspirations you cite for this game have very strong stories and that drives everything.
2) Will the weapon and engine graphical effects be improved? Right now they aren't very interesting when compared to even older space games. Similarly, will the textures for PC be improved? Again, while nice, they don't seem like anything I haven't seen in older space sims.
Thanks!
