Six days. Six cities. Over one thousand vulnerable children. Help us share the photographic and narrative stories of Ugandan orphans.

There are over 2.7 million orphans living in Uganda 44% are orphaned due to AIDS. We’ve heard the labels... Abandoned... Infected... Improvished. But we believe that labels lie. 

What if we looked beyond the labels? What if we knew their stories? What if we knew their names? 

The Project

On November 13th a team of writers and photographers will travel to Uganda with Children’s HopeChest to capture the orphan story. The real story. We believe that the true orphan story is one of hope, bravery, strength, and resiliency. We'll be capturing these beautiful stories of culture, community, and faith and sharing them in both ebook and soft cover, coffee table format. Our goal with this book is to give voice to the amazing children who are finding their way in uncertain circumstances. 

While in Uganda we will meet over 1,000 children from six different orphan communities. With your help we will record their stories and publish them in an ebook rich with photography, narrative, and web based content. 

With your help we will strip back the labels and learn their stories. 

The Funding

The $5,000 raised for this project will help us cover travel expenses to Uganda and some of the costs associated with the book production. We're hoping to raise an additional $5,000 ($10,000 total) to add a videographer to the team and add web based video content to the book project. 

As with all Kickstarter projects, we will not receive any of the money raised if we do not meet our $5,000 minimum goal. Every dollar counts and is incredibly appreciated! (Note: Your credit card will not be charged if we do not meet our goal).

The Creatives

Nicole Wick: Nicole is a mom, blogger, adoptee, and orphan advocate from Detroit, Michigan. 

Sasha Leahovenco: Sasha is a photographer, designer, and marketing manager from Sacramento, California. 

Aleksandr Shik: Alek is the cinematic mind behind lots of creative projects including work with the NFL and Francis Chan. He and his wife, Diana, own Shiksa Studios in San Francisco, California.
