Everett presents a new performance illuminating the beauty and mystery of the brain through stories of the human experience.

BRAIN STORM

Everett’s critically acclaimed Company takes audiences on a journey into the universe’s most complex structure – the human brain, in all its complexity and beauty. Using current neuroscience research and personal narrative as fuel, BRAIN STORM tells the tale of the brain and how it makes us human. BRAIN STORM seamlessly blends choreography, storytelling, factual information, humor, and video projection to create a multimedia dance/theater experience that informs, entertains, and provokes thought.

Everett’s Company is known for its research-driven, visually complex style, and the brain is the perfect subject for their investigative technique. As storytellers, Company members translate technical information into affecting human stories. As humanists, they anticipate and critique the social implications of technological advancements. The artists play a synthesizing role in discovery by connecting the disparate elements of science and personal narrative and exposing their connections.

BRAIN STORM is informed by interviews with leading brain scientists, as well as a two-year residency at New Hampshire’s Crotched Mountain School, a facility for brain injury rehabilitation and education. The piece examines new developments in brain research, and the imminent neurological revolution – which includes the ability to map the spectrum of human emotions, beliefs, and tendencies. BRAIN STORM explores this new terrain.

Following the final matinee on April 29, Everett will present a Brain Café, which brings this two-year project of discovery to conclusion in a program entitled Your Brain on Art.

The Brain Café is a series of public conversations about the brain and its mysteries that have run concurrently with the creation and performance of the  BRAIN STORM project.

BRAIN STORM was created through a multi-year artist residency produced by ARTVENTURES New England at the Crotched Mountain Specialty Hospital and School (www.crotchedmountain.org) in Greenfield, NH. Crotched Mountain (Donald Shumway, CEO) is one of the country's leading brain injury and neurological disorder rehabilitation and treatment institutions.

Everett, through its Company, Stage and School brings live art to diverse audiences. With a 25-year history, a Company that tours nationally; a vibrant Stage of monthly programming; and a School that offers classes in everything from ballet to improvisation, Everett is at the forefront of integrating art and community.
