One birthed her, one nursed her, one raised her. Now she's burying all three.
MY THREE MOMS is a one-woman show that I wrote two years ago based on my life experience of growing up with three different mothers in the Bible Belt South. In the play, I play the daughter and a slew of other quirky characters, including family members and local towns people, all attending the funerals of each mother. The main character is the matriarch of the highly-revered Georgia family, Aunt Zooie, who sugar-coats everything, including death, by touting "we've got a life to celebrate" as she enters each funeral. Dark family secrets are revealed throughout, which build to the final climax where the daughter realizes that what she thought were truths about her family were actually myths. The show is funny, thoughtful and heart-wrenching. In 2010, it was accepted into the New York International Fringe Festival, the Mama Drama Festival and into the United Solo Theatre Festival in 2011. In addition, I performed a run of the show in January and February of 2011 at Stage Left Studios in NYC and at 13th Street Rep Theatre in April, 2011. After having performed my show in NYC on numerous occasions, I wanted to take the show "on the road." And for me, the most efficient way to do this was to apply to the Fringe Festivals under the Canadian Association of Fringe Festivals (CAFF). Canada has the most Fringe Festivals of any country, and the CAFF also includes festivals that are located outside of Canada.
So, I applied to Fringe Festivals under the CAFF and got accepted into the Orlando Fringe (May 16 - 28, 2012), Winnipeg Fringe (July 18 - 29, 2012), and Edmonton Fringe Festival (August 16 - 26, 2012).
Thus, setting the course of MY THREE MOMS' "Canadian" tour (by way of Orlando).
For each of these festivals, I will need to have resources to cover my air fare, car rentals, promotional materials, i.e. postcards and posters, and advertising in the local papers, and participant's fees.
I have had such amazing support from my friends and family in New York. So many people have seen the show more than once and given me so much moral support and feedback. I just need financial support to take MY THREE MOMS on the road.
Even the smallest amount will help me in reaching my goal of $5,000. Please remember that I must reach my goal of at least $5,000, because under the Kickstarter rules, if I don't reach my goal, I won't get a penny. It's an all or nothing proposal.
Thank you so much for your interest in my project and your support to help take MY THREE MOMS on the road!
With love and gratitude,
Virginia
