I'm looking to my friends and fans to help me finish my new CD entitled "Good For You"
Hey, It's me, Tom Gillam from Austin, TX, I'm sure some of you know me by now, but if you don't here's a little bit of my history. I've been recording and touring as a solo artist for the last 12-15 years. My music has been categorized as Americana, but I call it "Country Rock" or as the now defunct music magazine, No Depression said; " Gillam is the edgier side of Americana with a healthy dose of 70's guitar rock bombast", either way, it probably sounds like I quit listening to music around 1975... FYI, I didn't!
I'm doing this Kickstarter campaign to raise money to complete my new CD "Good For You". The money will be used to pay recording costs, mixing costs, pressing & promoting costs. I really need more than the $6000 I'm asking for but since I only have a month to raise the money I thought this number was a realistic one. If by chance we raise more it will all go to the costs involved in making this record (yeah I said it,record!!) a reality. First here's a bit of back story about the music..
The story concerning my new, almost finished CD "Good For You"
I was on tour playing with a side project called, US Rails. The drummer Matt Muir, who is also a producer, in an unguarded moment said; "I honestly think I can help you make the record that you've always wanted to make". At first I asked; "Why, do my others sound bad?" He grinned and said; "No, but I'm not sure you've ever done what you are really capable of doing." I wasn't sure if he really meant it. I,not wanting to offend said; "yes, we should do that sometime" and I left it at that.
I Didn't Think You Were Serious
I got a call from Matt when I got back to Austin. He said his parents had a little place in Maryland right on the river. He worked out a deal to get a mobile recording unit there that same week and told me I should figure out how to get to Maryland, as he was planning to record my new record with or without me. I really didn't think he was serious, but I agreed it would be better if I was there, since it was going to be my LP after all. I scraped the money together, got on a plane and made it to the lake house just in time to start the project. We gathered some friends, pushed the record button and made some of the best, most inspiring music of my entire career! A real, down home, funky and raw bundle of tracks that are overflowing with the joy we took in recording them. I really never wanted it to end...
Now What Do We Do?
Once we realized it was going to cost money to actually finish this work, we decided to try Kickstarter. I really hated the thought of asking for help, I thought I might figure out a way to pull it off myself but unfortunately, I can't, so here I am asking you from the bottom of my heart to help me complete this project. I'm looking forward to sharing it with you all, I hope that you'll enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it.
Thanking you in Advance,
