Update #40: Happy Anniversary to Brind!ebeast
Hello, all!
A year ago, we gathered in NYC to work through the script, characters and issues of ASL translation with our cast, crew and creative team. We met several months later for more and deeper work. Since then, the script has been substantially revised, and critical producing partnerships have been forged as we move ever closer to finding our dream composer/collaborator.
And in the meantime, I put together this little slide show to show you what this happy, messy process looks like.
Thanks for keeping the faith!
Best,
Update #39: Emily Robinson and Brind!ebeast featured in BACK STAGE MAGAZINE!
Hello, all!
Had to share this little ray of sunshine--like Emily herself--while we wait for Irene's arrival! (I'm watching MSNBC as I write this. The reporter from Virginia Beach is wearing swimming goggles!) http://www.backstage.com/bso/news-and-features-who-got-the-part/emily-robinson-got-the-part-1005327762.story
You can see videos and photos of Emily in her album on the Brindlebeast site at: http://www.brindlebeastmusical.com/brindlebeastmusical/Cast/Pages/Emily_Robinson_as_%22Tessa%22.html
Stay safe, everyone!

Update #38: Happy Hurricane!
Hello, all!
Here on the east coast, we're expecting to ride out the summer on the winds of Hurricane Irene, so before we lose power, log on to the Brindlebeast site http://www.brindlebeastmusical.com/brindlebeastmusical to see all that's been happening!
Check out the new blog "Watching from the Wings" written by Wingwoman Extraordinare, Judy Irvin Kuns; look up "In Performance" to see how our talented actors have spent their summer and are planning their fall; peruse the "Cast Albums" all of which have been updated; and read my new blog, posted just last night.
Just as in the calm before the storm, much is happening with Brind!ebeast below the surface. So hang on to your flip-flops, folks--the wind is picking up!
Cheers!
Anita

Update #31: Update on last week in NYC
Hello, all--and Happy New Year!
What a whirlwind the first few weeks of 2011 have been! We had quite a ride in NYC last week. Went over a revision of the script. Discussed concerns. Hashed out problems. Through it all the entire company gained in strength and commitment to the project, and it was documented beautifully by theatrical photographer Gregory Costanzo . I'll be sending you a small album in another email from Smilebox, but do go to the Brindlebeast site to see four days of photos.
Part of our process in NYC was finding a composer--and we are still at it! We've talked with a number of amazing musicians, many of whom are very busy with other musicals! For this reason, I'm sorry to say, we will have to postpone the readings in NYC & Hartford once again. We are looking at dates in late spring through late fall, but we need to decide on our composer before we can nail down the final dates.
I know some of you are disappointed about these developments. Truly, though, delays are part of the process--consider the $65+million production of Spiderman! None of us wants to rush the process; we all want to present Brindlebeast to the public in the best possible light. As frustrating as it may be, all of this requires PATIENCE and commitment to the process itself.
So please keep the faith. Keep on keeping on. I'll be in touch again with updates.
For now, though, enjoy Gregory's wonderful photographic documentation of the process we call "building Brindlebeast!"
Warmest regards,
Anita
Update #30: Gearing up for another week of rehearsals in NYC...
Happy New Year, all!
I'm packing my bags and heading to NYC next week! Terese Genecco and Darren Frazier have joined the cast of Brindlebeast, and so we will be able to read the revised script with a complete cast! Read a bit about Terese and Darren on the site. While you're there, check out my newly posted blog.
In addition to working on the script, and ASL interpretation, we will meeting with several--maybe even all five prospective composers. Can't tell you who they are, but two are BIG SHOTS, two are LESS BIG SHOTS and one is a HOT SHOT. ; )
And then there's the informal get-together on Thursday evening where we'll be sharing some of the script with industry friends and special guests.
All in all, it promises to be an exciting--and butterflies-in-the-stomach-inducing week. I'll keep you posted as much as possible on the website so STAY TUNED!
And from the entire company of Brindlebeast, I wish you a healthy, creative and prosperous 2011!
All my best,
Anita

Update #27: More site updates
Hello again!
FYI--I uploaded MORE video clips and MORE photos from NYC today. The site is getting pretty heavy because of all this media, so please be patient if it takes more time than usual to load.
It's fun stuff though-- you'll catch a glimpse of the reading and listen in on feedback from the cast, there's a clip of a few cast members singing around the piano, Eric and me roasting artichokes, ASL instruction and more...
ENJOY!
Anita
Update #26: Check out the video clips and photos from our NYC rehearsals.
What a time we had! What a creative whirlwind! Twenty-one of us in all: actors, three teams of interpreters, one ASL master translator, two stage managers, two wing women-- and me--living, working, cooking together! Totally fab!
Check out the pix and videos at www.brindlebeastmusical.com while I try to put these experiences into words for the blog...
