Art/Trek is an improvisational docu-series about unrepresented emerging artists created and directed by CJ Follini of WelcometoCOMPANY.com that premiered January 9th on NYC life Channel 25. Art/Trek scoured the five boroughs of NYC on a quest to discover the next art star in its one-of-a-kind mobile art gallery – ArtV. The ArtV was built by Welcome to COMPANY and it's a 36 foot recreational vehicle retrofitted as a pop-up art gallery inside and graffiti-bombed outside. Each episode CJ Follini was joined by prominent co-hosts representing each borough such as legendary guitarist Vernon Reid (Staten Island) and renowned performance artist/actor/HuffPost writer Kalup Linzy (Brooklyn). In the Season 1 Finale, one of the five artists won their first ever solo show as voted on by the audience via Twitter and Facebook. Hint - the winner was from the Bronx.
Season 1 of Art/Trek was so successful it became the most watched and most downloaded TV show about Emerging Art online. Over 230,000 episode downloads since Jan 9th! The episode re-airs are averaging tens of thousands of viewers on a NYC-only cable channel! So I guess what I'm saying is, " Time to go big - THE WHOLE FREAKING USA. And better yet - the show was just accepted to the Ovation Channel VOD. Yeah baby!
Need more incentive? We are doing this in cooperation with the amazing non-profit - chashama. This organization supports communities by transforming temporarily vacant properties into spaces where artists can flourish. By recycling and re-purposing buildings in transition, we invest in neighborhoods, foster local talent, and sustain a vast range of creativity, commerce and culture. chashama is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
