A film that goes inside the lives of the last four late abortion doctors in America.
Dr. George Tiller of Wichita, Kansas, was a faithful church-goer and a father of four. He was also one of the only doctors in the country who performed late-term abortions for women, and in 2009, he became the eighth American abortion clinic worker to be assassinated since Roe v. Wade. With his death, there are now only four doctors in the country who provide late-term abortions for women. AFTER TILLER goes inside the lives of these physicians, who have become the new number-one targets of the pro-life movement, yet continue to risk their lives every day to do work which many call murder—but which these doctors believe literally saves lives.
The film opens in the wake of Dr. Tiller’s death, with Dr. LeRoy Carhart beginning to provide late-term abortions at his Nebraska clinic. In response, the Nebraska legislature passes a law that prohibits all abortions past twenty weeks, driving Dr. Carhart to seek a new state where he can practice. Meanwhile, in Colorado, 74-year-old Dr. Warren Hern struggles to balance his dangerous work with a new family life, while in New Mexico, Dr. Susan Robinson and Dr. Shelley Sella face a series of challenging moral dilemmas about which patients they should provide late-term abortions for and why.
At a time when the abortion debate in America has reached a fever pitch, AFTER TILLER seeks to shed more light—rather than more heat—on the issue, through unprecedented access to the four doctors at the center of the storm.
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
We have met separately with Dr. Hern (who is in Boulder, Colorado) and Dr. Carhart (who is in Bellevue, Nebraska), and both of them are excited about the project and have agreed to provide us with as much access as possible.
However, we spent all the money that each of us had personally saved to go visit them and talk to them about the project. Now we need to raise money so that we can go back with a cinematographer over the next few months and officially start shooting.
Your donation will help us cover the costs of the trip, including travel to Omaha and Boulder and lodging, the cost of hiring a cinematographer, and other production costs involved in shooting the film.
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
