Dust in Their Veins - A Visual Response to the Global Water Crisis
"Dust" is a proposed installation of mixed media art works that bring discussion and action to the plight of women and children who are adversely affected by the lack of access to clean water.
Hi! I am a visual artist in Chicago who stumbled upon this issue about two years ago and decided that this was an area in which my art self and my activist self could merge seamlessly.
I tend to work in series, series that tell stories in accessible ways. The stories being told in this series are conveyed on wooden female torsos. The pieces are painted, adorned, collaged, transformed - relaying the stories of drought and of beauty. The stories are each 33" tall with up to 30 of these torsos surrounding a "waiting place" in the center of the space.
Why Kickstarter for Dust? I am an independent artist working on an art installation dealing with social justice. That being said, I am asking you to be a stakeholder in the birth of this project.
The opening for the first phase of "Dust" is Thursday, March 22, 2012, in conjunction with the United Nation's World Water Day. Please help me to continue this work and make this an exciting and meaningful opening!
