Neighbors Building an Urban Community Farm on an abandoned city lot in Reservoir Hill, Baltimore
Whitelock Community Farm is a resident-driven farm in Reservoir Hill, Baltimore. Residents volunteer in exchange for shares of produce and sell healthy and affordable vegetables to their community at a weekly farm stand.
We believe that everyone has a right to affordable, healthy, quality food grown in a way that is environmentally sustainable and socially just.
We are raising money to develop the following projects!
Local Composting Program: The farm works with area restaurants and residents, reducing waste, while creating natural fertilizer for organic farming.
Infrastructure: We are building a seedling greenhouse, fence, tool-shed, and expanding our growing area to provide low-cost locally grown food for Baltimore residents.
Educational Programs: By intitiating farm based learning projects with area schools, recreation centers and youth programs the farm is educating young people about healthy eating, where food comes from, and how to grow it.
We’ve had an incredible first season and are excited to continue growing into our second full season in Baltimore. But we will need additional funding to be successful! We received some small grants for help with some of our projects and volunteers have shown steady support. In order to grow to our potential, we are seeking funding to address infrastructure and programmatic needs.
