Our 2012 productions of SATURN (a play about food) and MARS (a play about mining) performed in green, LEED-certified NYC spaces.
Superhero Clubhouse is an eco-theater company. That means we make plays that tell stories about our relationship to the environment, and we produce those plays in the most sustainable ways possible.
This year, to better serve our mission, we've pledged to present our plays in green spaces in New York City.
A green space is a sustainable space; one that has little impact on the environment. A green space is designed with green building materials, outfitted with energy-efficient lighting, heating and cooling systems, water-saving plumbing, and effectively reduces, reuses and recycles its resources. A green space is often certified LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), which means it meets an international standard of environmental excellence.
One of the most inefficient elements of making theater is the energy waste created by the traditional theater space itself. But NYC green spaces like The Wild Project and Center For Performance Research rise above the rest in their commitment to sustainability. Superhero Clubhouse is dedicated to performing in green spaces such as these, in conjunction with our continuing aspirations to produce low-environmental impact, high-cultural impact theater.
