An exciting four week project providing accessible arts education in the Philippines through classes, workshops, and performances.

In August of 2008 a group of six dancers from The Juilliard School journeyed halfway around the world to the Philippines to share what they know best, their art form. They taught in three schools, performed over ten times and created new pieces with students in different communities. After such a successful trip and in response to strong requests, our group of artists is inspired and excited to return in June of 2012.
Project Philippines 2012 is an exciting four week project inspired by our interest to teach and expand upon our art forms, specifically movement, music, and visual arts. As a passionate team of dancers, musicians, and one visual artist we are excited to share our talents with individuals in many communities. We hope to learn from the Filipino culture as well as create meaningful exchange.
With the community in Northern Samar, we will provide free and accessible arts education through classes, workshops, and performances; creating a safe space for young people to communicate and express their realities. We will also spend time teaching at The Philippine High School for the Arts (PHSA) and Ballet Philippines in Manila, exploring all different styles of dance and arts.
Our project will culminate in three different school performances in collaboration with students at Philippine High School of Performing Arts, Cultural Center of the Philippines and San Isidro. There will also be three public performances presented to local communities in Samar and Manila. A documentary film will be produced to share our experiences and illustrate the positive impact of arts education.

Goals / Benefits:
1. Educate/teach kids to express themselves with art, movement and sound, empowering self-confidence within the children. We hope to communicate hope and a positive vision for the future through the shared language of art.
2. Share, network/collaborate with other Filipino Artists, specifically in PHSA. We want to motivate both American and Filipino students to pursue outreach programs, with benefits to spread a constructive perspective on the arts
3. Develop our own artistic career skills as future teachers through collaborative performances and workshops.
