About this project
I am currently in the midst of an art project. The project stems from my deep appreciation in both comic art and 16th century Renaissance Masters. This work is part of a revival in classical art that is happening today, completed as large master studies from major Renaissance figures such as Velazquez and Rubens. I compare the heroic figures of their subject with our heroes of today to recreate(and revive) these glorious compositions for our time. The comparisons become creative as characters such as Batman and the Dude(from the Big Lebowski) are used as inspiration. The result is satirical yet glorifying mix.
My paintings have been winning awards and I plan on showing them in art galleries around the country. You can visit my blog/portfolio/website at:

I have been working on this project for the past 3 years which is part of my thesis work for my master's in fine art at the University of Missouri. I am due to have the thesis show at the end of this year.
The paintings are large and require a lot of materials and effort, and I will need help with the next piece. The money raised will help me cover the cost of the materials and payment of the models hired to pose for the paintings. I will also produce a full color book of the show, of my art and includes my thesis. This will let me share my artwork with the world.
The next painting I plan on making in the series is a hand crafted oil after Rubens. The planned finish painting will boast life-sized figures at over 6 feet wide and 7 feet tall.

16th century by Rubens titled : "The Drunken Hercules"
The title of my piece will be called "The Drunken Superman."
This painting will also be a part of my Masters Thesis art show at the University of Missouri.
The process is all built from hand. I construct the entire painting, and paint from life to create a life-like painting. I spend time with models and reconstruct the scene.

After the death of his father, and the disappearance of his brother Jake threw himself at his childhood dreams which were filled with comic books and sci-fi. This provided Jake inspirations to follow his dreams as an artist. Following his path to college, the academic world opened Jake’s eyes to the world around him, and filled him with a understanding of the state of art today. Filled with an unyielding love that believes in good art of today, Jake is working hard in bring his masterpieces to life. Today, through his dedicated work, Jake is becoming what some refer to as the “art hero.”
A realist painter living in the mid-west, Jake’s painting style emphasizes classical painting techniques. Although touched by school, his techniques were mostly self taught as he found himself disagreeing with mainstream critical taste . Jake’s work emphasizes a past historical glory in art, and his paintings of heroes are becoming a leading part of a revival in classical art.
Jake’s artwork has acquired national and international recognition. The work of this young artist has been recently showcased in the Wetpaint Exhibition at the Zhou B art center in Chicago, and also an upcoming show in New York City where the artist William Bailey has juried his work at the Prince Street Gallery. Jake has won multiple awards for his artwork and has received many reviews of his work. His work is collected nationally and internationally.
