Thanks to lots more generous folks, our backer count is over 105 (107 as I write), our current total is over $7,500 ($7,642), and we're cruising right along.

I just tasted a delicious veggie arepa - we've been really hammering on this recipe, trying to get it extra-delicious, and I think we're pretty close to what we'll actually be serving once we're open. We've got a filling made with avocado, cilantro, corn and chili relish, a romesco sauce, and a slaw of jicama and apple. It's pretty darn good, if I do say so. I'm especially critical of our vegan offerings, because I've had so many unexciting vegan dishes, and a vegan arepa is a bigger challenge than you might think. We'll keep refining it (we've got some pretty interesting ideas that I really want to try), but stop by on Monday and taste what we've got so far.
On the construction front, I spoke to our health inspector who's doing our plan check on Thursday. He's working on our plans, and I expect to hear comments from him on Tuesday or so. We've also got a plan checker at the city building department assigned, and they ought to be working on our plans pretty soon as well. I met with an inspector working for our bank, who's going over our construction plans and budget, so they can tell the bank whether we're likely to get the work we need done for the dollars we're allocating to it. That process is going well.
We're collecting competitive bids for construction - because we're getting some money from the Oakland Redevelopment Agency (we were one of the very last projects to get through the approval process before Redevelopment was cut off by the State), we have to show three bids for all our work. Which is another pain in the butt, but has to be done.
I guess the short story is that there's a ton to do, and a ton getting done, and everything is going as well as can be expected. I honestly can't wait to get Victory Burger built and open - we have so many delicious things to serve, and with your help, we're going to have a beautiful and unique restaurant to serve them from.
