Cynthia Hopkins' new musical work addressing our global climate crisis. All U.S. donations are Tax-Deductible.
I’m in the midst of creating This Clement World, a new musical performance work addressing the climate crisis. I’ve been working on this project for a little over a year, writing text and music, creating fictional characters, and doing research to learn as much as I can about the impacts of human activity on climate change. I had a particularly inspiring opportunity to learn more about this issue last September, when I joined a Cape Farewell expedition to the Arctic ocean. That journey was a transformative experience, and I emerged from it with a wider understanding of the climate crisis, as well as a lot of stunning footage of the landscape, the sailboat we traveled on, and my shipmates.
I’m currently in rehearsals with longtime collaborators D.J. Mendel (director) and Jeff Sugg (designer) developing the project further. For this first phase of the project, we’ve been supported by funding from the Jerome Foundation, the MAP Fund, and several generous donors.
In the new year, we’ll take the project to the next level, rehearsing with a live ensemble of musicians to prepare for a concert version of the work at St. Ann’s in May (also featuring songs from previous works) followed by premiere performances of This Clement World next season at St. Ann’s, the Walker Art Center, and Les Subsistances in Lyon, France.
The ensemble will include musicians I’ve been playing with for years, who’ve been featured in past shows, albums, and concerts of mine; but there will also be a small choir of vocalists to support the songs, and I’m really excited about this new musical element. To make this orchestral expansion possible, we need your support!
We invite you to participate in bringing This Clement World to fruition – as co-producer, associate producer, or supporter. In return, we have an array of exciting rewards to offer – look over to the right for a full list. With your help, we can create a riveting message in service to the preservation of our currently habitable, magical home, This Clement World.
Thank You,
Cynthia
