About this project

A recent poll by The Pew Forum found that many religious groups know little to nothing about one another, or even their own theologies. People are afraid of what they don’t understand and willing to kill and die over their concept of the divine.

It’s time to lighten up.

www.projectconversion.com has a mission: To enlighten and entertain. Over the course of a year, I will fully immerse myself in one religion per month. With the help of spiritual Mentors and research, every step of the journey will be documented here via photos, video, and blog entry. So instead of learning about faiths through the lense of an academic documentary, the world will see each faith through the fresh, anxious eyes of a newly minted convert.

Should be fun. Will certainly be interesting, and hopefully by the end a few folks who may have been reticent to find out about other faiths will learn something by vicariously “converting” for a month through me.

How it will work:

Every step of my year-long journey will be documented. To do this, 2-3 blog entries will be made per week at www.projectconversion.com. In the beginning months, I will create a short "end of the week" video of my activities and interviews every other week. The goal is to work up to one video every week. By the end of each month I will open a live video chat session where the audience can ask questions, offer comments and/or suggestions in real time.

Project Conversion requires an enormous amount of time and planning. Because I currently live in a rural area in which few faiths are represented, I'll have to travel a few hours to meet with my Mentors each month. I will also need basic film equipment to capture every moment I can and bring the experience to the audience. In addition, many of the faiths practiced will require spiritual articles and supplies. Examples include the "Five K's" that all Sikhs wear, ritual materials of Wicca, a prayer mat for Islam, and any religious texts I'll need to read.

This is where I need your help. Project Conversion involves a great deal and has far-reaching implications that I believe will benefit all who are involved no matter what their spiritual disposition. So I'm asking for your hand in this; help me make this journey. With your support, we can reach lives and mend the world of faith.
