The GROWcube is a seed starting unit that optimizes counter space. Grow 32 healthy plants with strong roots in a 6.5" x 13" space.

THE GROW CUBE:

WHAT IT IS-

An eco friendly seed starting unit that maximizes available counter/window space and allows maximum area for root development resulting in healthy seedlings that transplant with less shock than conventional units.

HOW IT WORKS-

Fundamentally, it divides a block of soil into cells that remain open at the bottom and rest in the tray. This provides good air circulation to the roots.  As there is no empty air space around each cell the growing area is relatively compact and temperature fluctuation on the roots is minimized.

WHY PLANTS ARE HEALTHIER-

BECAUSE:

-The roots are better insulated due to soil mass.

-The Cube will be a neutral green that neither absorbs heat (black) or reflects heat (white), therefore the day/night temperature fluctuation is steady and even.

-The roots have more room to develop than a conventional cell of a comparable size.

-The root area stays more uniformly damp than a cell that is wider at the top than the base and subject to more rapid evaporation.

Roots like to grow straight down and then branch.  In the Cube, the roots go down and begin to spread on the tray bottom while they are branching.  In a conventional cell, they go down and then begin spiraling around the bottom of the cell.  So in the Cube, the roots have more room to branch at the bottom of the cell and room to spread in the tray.  As they are gently pulled apart, when transplanting, the plants lose much less of the root structure then a plant that has a knot in the roots that impedes the plants development.

WHY IT IS “ECO-FRIENDLY”-

Growing plants (especially our own food!) is one of the most eco-friendly activities we can engage in.  But conventional trays are an eco-nightmare, as most are doomed to a landfill after a single use.

The Grow Cube will be manufactured from a highly durable, UV resistant plastic.  The inserts can be easily disassembled and stored compactly in the two trays that snap together as a base and lid.  The trays and flat inserts are easy to clean and dishwasher safe.

This is a high quality gardener’s tool that is designed to last for many, many years.  Should the unthinkable happen (death by puppies, say, or lawnmower) the damaged part is recyclable, with a #6 plastic designation.  I intend to provide individual parts so damaged pieces can be replaced.

And, they will be made in the U.S.!
