About FURY Factory Theater Festival

For the three weeks in June 2011 the many theater spaces in the Project Artaud building in San Francisco’s Mission district will become home to an outpouring of performance, artistic exchange and cross pollination, panel discussions, and training events open to everyone. This year, 31 innovative theater companies from all over the country will converge in San Francisco from June 7-26 for FoolsFURY's acclaimed biennial theater festival, co-hosted by Z Space and Theatre of Yugen.

"The FURY Factory is a great way of bringing people from around the country to San Francisco," says Ben Yalom, Artistic Director of foolsFURY. "Our intention is to bring representatives of the national theater conversation - outside of blockbuster touring vehicles - to an audience made up of savvy and interested theater goers, theater makers, and of course, writers."

BUT WE CAN'T DO IT ALONE!

Inspired by New York festivals such as the ones hosted by PS122, HERE, and Under the Radar, the FURY Factory is the only festival of its kind in the Bay Area. It is a chance to bring these incredible theatrical voices from around the country to San Francisco, to expose our audiences to their work and to expand the national theatrical dialogue. This is an event about artists and community coming together, and we want to support the creators and collaborators who make this festival happen.

Theater companies often bear the financial burden for producing their work. We are committed to compensating them. The money from Kickstarter will go towards paying the artists and personnel of the FURY Factory. We need to raise at least $6,000 by the end of May to be make this festival possible.

Among the highlights of the 2011 foolsFURY Festival:

Pig Iron (Philadelphia, PA) - This Obie-winning production of Chekhov Lizardbrain comes to San Francisco for its West Coast debut.

Theater Movement Bazaar (Los Angeles, CA) - Chekhov's Uncle Vanya is remixed for a new generation.

Buckworld (Riverside, CA) - Hip Hop Theater that features Krumping, the expressive and exaggerated dance style that first started as a means for youth to avoid or escape gang life, in order to tell an expansive story through dance, spoken word and historical video footage.

Campo Santo (San Francisco, CA) - The first showing of their new work, 1st element (who shot miguelito?), a collaboration with Dan Wolf and Tommy Shepherd. 

Band of Toughs (Denver, CO) - The stated mission of this company is to "put the ass back in passion and then kick it."

Chard Gonzalez Dance Theater (New Orleans, LA) - The Divine Feminine is a multi-media ride featuring the seduction of a goddess, the wrath of a queen, and other adventure of divine women and their boy toys.
