Week 2 (aka end of third install week)
Its one thing to ship an already made work to a museum, but creating a piece of art on-site is entirely different. We are all learning with this process. Its really impressive to me what museums must think about. Not just programming and finding money to show innovative work, but this litigious society makes it so they have to find the space to keep themselves safe while not compromising the artist's vision-- very hard to do with living artists!
Although work felt slow this week, we did get a lot done. I sent Will to Pennsylvania to a mill for our lap siding!
I've been searching for months for the right siding: something close to the style of the Schenck Houses, but within my budget. I thought I would have to settle with vinyl siding and scrap the perfect aesthetic because everything is so expensive here. But thanks to you, I was able to afford this great deal I found from a man named Ted at a mill near Bethlehem, PA on some spruce 1/2" x 12". It smells so great in the rotunda now! Will had quite the adventure, not being from here and his gps running out of batteries on the way home! Although all was fine in the end, he ended up on the road ALL day and we had to stash the wood in my friend's studio overnight because it was actually too long for the truck (Thank you, CAM!).
The home improvement center I'm ordering shingles from just told me that the order that was supposed to be in last Wednesday won't be here until next Friday. I think I am the museum registrar's most annoying customer this month. Oh, well. Again, this is what happens when you make something on site. I keep thinking of things we need and things we are running low on:
So, we are focusing on finishing the structure and building out the shrine/hearth. I put up some of the trim so we can start siding this coming week:

A sweet little article in the NY Daily News came out about the piece and me. :) All in all, it was a great week and I'm looking forward to CRANKIN' it out this week!
