We've launched an exciting new project of our own! Introducing the Kickstarter app for iPhone!

Funded! This project successfully raised its funding goal on April 12, 2011.

Thanks for helping us tell this story

Update #12 · Apr 13, 2011 · comment

When this film was just beginning at the end of 2007, there was no Kickstarter. The idea of getting direct support from people all over the country who would be able to learn about the film and see a preview and be moved to help make it happen: this was not a possibility I even imagined.

When we began this Kickstarter campaign we had begun to shape the results of nearly three years of filming, but we lacked the funds to continue editing. Now thanks to all of you we can do that. Over the next few months we'll complete a cut of the entire film. The reality of bringing The Whole Gritty City to screens large and small will finally be in sight.

Also thanks to all the people and organizations who took the initiative to help spread the word. To name some: NolaMusic.com, NewOrleansLive.com, GambitNewOrleans.com, Tipitina's Foundation, IHeartNola.com, Marchingsport.com, Louisiana Life, DearNewOrleans.com, InthekNOwla.com, Forbesweekly.com, and especially our own team member Dollena Campbell.

I honestly don't know how long a Kickstarter page lives after the deadline passes. We will post updates from time to time and see what happens. Also please check out our website over the coming months and think about signing up for the mailing list:

Eventually there will be news of our progress, and some new video material on the gallery page.

We'll be contacting all backers soon to make whatever arrangements are needed to make sure all backers will eventually get their rewards.

Oh, and for those of you who get HBO, the second season of Treme begins April 24. The season will dip into New Orleans' marching band world. Two very charismatic and talented real life characters in The Whole Gritty City will play fictional versions of themselves: the young trumpeter Bear and the band director Wilbert Rawlins Jr.

Once again, thank you all so much!
