MIRACLE DAY is an under-the-radar, under-the-street production of a new play written and directed by Tom Sime and developed through the Writer in Residence program at Theaters at 45 Bleecker in New York's East Village. MIRACLE DAY plays Mondays and Tuesdays at 8:15 pm from May 10 through June 15, 2010 in the Green Room, downstairs at Theatres at 45 Bleecker, 45 Bleecker Street at Lafayette, New York.

Adam Smith stars as Matthew, a successful young artist who simultaneously falls in love and under the spell of a new pill that seems to drive his sexuality, creativity and career to new heights. Only later do the drug’s buzz-killing side effects emerge. But was it worth it? And how do you settle for ordinary life after you’ve touched the divine?
This romantic comedy-drama is produced by Tom and Adam's company The Modern Stage, and also features Kristina Olson, Damian Maffei and Marcella Goheen.
This intimate, funny and intense romantic comedy-drama boasts an original score composed and performed live by the emerging Brooklyn rock band The Epicures, led by Vern Woodhead and Yana Davydova, whose influences include Radiohead, King Crimson and Soundgarden (http://www.myspace.com/vernwoodhead).
As the production comes together, its progress amid the bustle of 45 Bleecker will be documented by associate producer Jonathan Reed Wexler in Stage Life, a web TV series from the creators of College Life and Movie Life. The series tagline says it all: "Take a front row seat backstage."

In addition to a gorgeous live rock score, we have a beautifully realized sound design by Ken Rich of Grand Street Recording in Brooklyn (http://www.grandstreetrecording.com/GSR/Home.html), Bleecker tech wizard Perchik Kreiman-Miller designing our lighting, and the use of an elegant set borrowed from our "roommate" production, Alex Lyras and Robert McCaskill's The Common Air (http://thecommonair.com/), our overall approach is minimal, even spartan. The emphasis is on the people, and backers can be assured that their money is going into the hands and pockets of artists, not a lumberyard's cash register.
Though prices are recession-friendly ($21.50), we hope to secure a significant chunk of our budget through ticket sales.We have multiple strategies for attracting audiences. These include tapping into the already substantial fan base of our venue, Theatres at 45 Bleecker (http://www.45bleecker.com/). The web series will reach out to the Modern Stage email list, the Bleecker list, and Facebook, where we have 361 fans so far. Stage Life will let fans peek in behind the scenes and follow the progress of the show amid the general goings-on of this very busy Off-Broadway theater/cafe complex, where we are heavily promoting the show through flyers and posters visible to patrons inside and passersby outside.
Our goal is to raise $1,200 of our $11,000 budget through Kickstarter.
We are also raising funds through Fractured Atlas, a nonprofit arts-funding organization in New York (http://www.fracturedatlas.org/site/fiscal/profile...) that is sponsoring Miracle Day. Through Fractured Atlas, we have raised nearly $5,000 of our budget. The next fundraising push will be a packet sent to 10 patrons who have backed Tom's previous projects requesting tax-deductible donations of $1000 or more.

Adam Smith (Lead actor, Co-producer) starred in the rock opera Seduction by Salvatore Caesar Scordato in Las Vegas, co-produced and directed Bloodletters by Tom Sime, and directed five pieces in the “Oh. Nine” reading series by Sime, all in 2009. He has worked extensively in regional theater in musicals, plays and educational tours all over the United States and Canada, including the role of J. P. Morgan in Ragtime at Playhouse on the Square in Memphis. Adam serves as Department Head and Director of Public Relations for The Oklahoma Shakepearean Festival, where he also performed the role of Feste in Twelfth Night last summer. Other recent New York credits include multiple roles in The Merchant of Venice and lead roles in Dean Poynor’s Losing Sleep (with Miracle Day co-star Kristina Olson) and Tom Diriwachter's Avoid Direct Sunlight, all for American Theatre of Actors. TV credits include 30 Rock. Adam has trained in conservatory, university and with the late Paul Sills. He is currently working with writer Jordan Auslander on a new work, Scales Up, to be performed by Adam.
