PROPOSAL
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum is seeking donations to preserve a key artifact from a defining moment in popular music history. Recently, the Museum acquired a historic sign from Max Yasgur’s farm, the site of the groundbreaking Woodstock festival.
An anonymous donor has agreed to help fund half of the $24,000 acquisition costs by contributing $12,000 toward the project. This donation came with the condition that other music fans provide the remaining amount through this on-line campaign. We need your support to meet this goal. It will be exhibited at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum this August to commemorate Woodstock’s 42nd anniversary.
The Woodstock Music & Art Fair is universally recognized as a pivotal moment in our popular culture. An unprecedented array of artists took to the stage during the festival including: The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, the Band, Santana, the Grateful Dead, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Sly and the Family Stone and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Immediately following the world famous festival, a local resident salvaged a large metal sign for the Yasgur Farm, the host site, and placed it in his basement. Today, 42 years after the famed Festival, this important cultural artifact will be preserved to tell the story of the importance of this event at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.
All donations will fund the sign’s acquisition and installation. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law (excluding any goods or services that are provided by the Museum). Please consult your tax advisor for details.
