According to update #32, the app was supposed to get released today. What's up?
Creator Richard Monson-Haefel on January 6
Thanks, Penni!
Creator Penni Walker on January 5
Well that sucks on the no signature, but it's all good. I have my signature CD and that's even better. That's a shame they didn't make it but do whatever is easier. I'd like to know about the iPad app also. Thought I missed it.
Creator Jörn Huxhorn on December 19
Thanks. ^^
Creator Jörn Huxhorn on December 18
What about that lifetime subscription thingy and what about Frankenstein?
Please give us an update, preferably a non-backer-only one since a friend of mine is really waiting for the iPad release.
Creator Guns_n_Droids on November 22
Any news on Ipad app? A lot of time passed since the last update on status.
Creator Glint on August 13, 2012
Oh please don't get me wrong, the story itself is great :) I thoroughly enjoyed it and so did my wife so from my point of view you have the latitude.
I'm happy to just sit here waiting patiently for the rest of them now.
Creator Richard Monson-Haefel on August 13, 2012
Hi Londo2001,
Thanks for the support and the feedback. As we work toward the highest possible quality its this kind of feedback which really helps us achieve that!

Hi James,
I see that I never really responded to your longer message.
Thank you for the feedback and I am sorry you were a bit disappointed. We are hardly veterans at the printing side of things but we are working hard to make improvements. Hopefully, people will enjoy the story itself enough to allow us some latitude on our first printing.

Great! Btw - I love the profile picture!
Creator Musictwig on August 10, 2012
Received my physical copy today, thanks!
Creator Glint on August 10, 2012
Received my first book and the CD today, which I think is pretty good for a shipment out to Australia! I must say the CD is excellent and very much enjoyed listening too it.
Like the others I was somewhat under the (admittedly, in hindsight, wrong) impression that there was going to be a bit more colour and life to the printed version. Now the lack of colour (whilst disappointing) I can understand to a point, colour printing is expensive and there is a limited budget here, but a few more B&W illustrations throughout would have been nice. The steampunk world that you are pushing for this version of Holmes is very visual and colourful (steampunk by its nature is a very visual style) and a lot of that 'feel' is lost in this book because of its current presentation.
The size and feel of the book is spot on, the quality of the book is fine too and of course we all know that the story is excellent, but I do feel that it is let down a little by the lack of illustrations. The original Strand Magazine stories had some wonderful B&W sketches throughout them and the same approach here could have immensely helped this book. Things such as little sketches at the start of the chapters and/or little snippets of drawings in various places throughout the book to visually reinforce the steampunk motif would have elevated this book to a whole new level.
Still it must be remembered that this is the first of a number of these books and it is going to perhaps take at least one printing to get the correct feel and balance between text and picture.
Heres hoping that the right balance can be achieved. The game is afoot.
Creator Londo2001 on August 7, 2012
Hi Richard
Thanks for the update, I’m not looking to jump on the bandwagon for a free copy of the illustrated book I just thought some feedback would help improve the next book. If and when the illustrated book materialises I’d be happy to pay extra for a copy. Anyway when all is said and done you guys and gals have done a great job brining my two favourite genres together and I’m really looking forward to the other books.
Creator Richard Monson-Haefel on August 6, 2012
Hi Londo2001,
I understand your disappointment. The illustrations could be much better quality I agree and I'm working with the publisher so that we can provide crisper sketches.
What I cannot do is provide everyone with a four color book full of all the art - or at least my budget doesn't allow for that yet. Actually, that was never our intention with this award, but we should have been more explicit about that - I see that now.
I'm hopeful that most people will understand that we really are doing our best and want to improve and will do everything we can to make our contributors happy.

Hi Richard
I received my book on Saturday and have to agree with most of the points raised by David.
This is not the Illustrated book I was expecting. I’ve downloaded the PDF version an soon realised it was not going to be a long read but I was expecting much better artwork and more of it. As David pointed out the artwork looks horrible and doesn’t do any justice to the artist.
I’ve still not actually read the book yet and really looking forward to that but the overall presentation and quality could be better.
Creator Richard Monson-Haefel on July 30, 2012
Hi David,
I'm truly sorry that you are feeling disappointed with the paper book - looking back at the materials you referenced I can see how anyone would be expecting much more.
Here is what I can do for you: I can refund your money if you provide me with your paypal account address or, if you prefer, I can send you a poster of your choice. If neither of these options make you happy I can put you on a list to receive a fully color illustrated edition of the book which we have planned, but have not announced, for next year.
Let me know which of these three options you prefer and I'll be happy to make good on it. I really don't want anyone feeling ripped off.
Thanks for your comments,
Richard
Creator David A. Watanabe on July 30, 2012
Honestly, I feel a bit ripped off. On the main page it talks about the beautiful artwork that had been created for this book - and you showed off some amazing looking stuff. But none of it appears anywhere in the hard copy of the book, besides eight "portraits", which honestly look horrible in b&w. Why doesn't my book look anything like the one illustrated under the 'What is Steampunk Holmes?' section on the main page? In the 'What is Multi-Channel Publishing' section, you even go as far as to say "we'll have an illustrated printed edition as well". Is this a different copy of the book? Did I have to check a different box somewhere? I understand that a lot of the artwork was meant for interactive features, but why couldn't the static artwork be used in the book? Or even some color? I really feel like I missed the memo that the book was going to be published as a thin, soft-cover, large type, unillustrated 'book'.
Creator Richard Monson-Haefel on July 18, 2012
Glad it worked for you!
Creator G Moran on July 18, 2012
Ah update 18 code worked a treat. Many thanks for the reply; looking forward to reading this!
Creator Richard Monson-Haefel on July 16, 2012
Hi G. Moran,
Sorry you are having problems. I just check the code posted in Update #18 and it looks fine. Did you try that code? Note: If you already downloaded the book using that code you won't be able to download it again.
Richard
Creator G Moran on July 16, 2012
Hi,
the code supplied to get a copy from Smashword isn't working. Any chance of sending a copy?
Creator Ryan Andes on July 13, 2012
Just received my hard copy! I've been putting off finishing the book until I had it on paper, ereaders don't compare. Thanks!
Creator Londo2001 on May 22, 2012
Thanks Richard all seems to be working now.
Creator Kiwamu on May 22, 2012
Hope you shout words out, when the 2nd novel hits the bookstores, that would be awesome!
Creator Richard Monson-Haefel on May 21, 2012
Ok. My domain register was the culprit. I extended the time I owned the domain steampunkholmes.com by five years and was rewarded with a disassociation of the domain with our web site. It will take up to 24 hours to fix.
Richard
Creator Richard Monson-Haefel on May 21, 2012
Darn. Working on it!!
Creator Londo2001 on May 21, 2012
Richard, any idea why steampunkholmes.com is not working?
Cheers
Simon
Creator Richard Monson-Haefel on May 20, 2012
Tim, if you have downloaded the book before than you have to download it in the same format the next time. If this isn't the issue or if you just can't get it to download, send me a private message and I'll send you a new coupon code.
Richard
Creator Tim Hudson on May 20, 2012
I can't figure out why my redemption code isn't working, can someone help?
Creator Paul Harrison on May 9, 2012
Thanks Richard, PDF is absolutely fine. Much appreciated!
Creator Richard Monson-Haefel on May 9, 2012
Hi Paul,
Sorry you are having problems. What format do you want? I'll send you the file directly by email.

Creator Paul Harrison on May 9, 2012
Hi guys, anyone else having problems downloading from Smashwords? I've input the code (after irritatingly having to go through the whole sign up process to smash books) but it tells me page is invalid and won't download? Can someone help with this please? Many thanks
Creator Richard Monson-Haefel on May 6, 2012
Hi Penni,
Not sure why you had a problem. Over 900 people have downloaded and used the coupon to get the book for free. Perhaps you can ask for help from the folks at Smashwords.com? It's probably just something you missed.
Let me know if you want some help with this.
Richard
Creator Penni Walker on May 5, 2012
Well, just got the email about being able to use the coupon code to get the eBook and there was no where for me to put in the coupon code :( 99cents is no biggie, but I hope that doesn't happen with the rest of the extras and books we get.
Creator Richard Monson-Haefel on May 5, 2012
Frank, we are so excited to be able to publish the first and second books in 2012! Thank you for your support!
Creator Richard Monson-Haefel on May 5, 2012
James, thank you so much for your support!
Creator Frank Boecherer on May 5, 2012
A belated congratulations to you, Richard, and the whole team for full funding! I can't wait to see what comes out of your creative minds.
Creator Glint on May 4, 2012
@Richard - On behalf of my self only (since I cant presume to speak for anyone else), Thank you, and it's my pleasure.
And now the game is well and truly afoot so get developing!
:-)
Creator Richard Monson-Haefel on May 4, 2012
I'm going to write a longer missive about this as an official update but I just wanted to say briefly how grateful I am to everyone of the contributors for their pledges. There are so many positive outcomes from this campaign. Having the funds we need to complete development of the first book AND development of the second is a dream come true. Meeting and talking with many, if not all, the contributors was fantastic. So many wonderful people! YOU ROCK!
Creator Richard Monson-Haefel on May 4, 2012
Andy Bates: sorry I didn't see your comment until after the campaign ended.
Creator ET3D on May 3, 2012
Congratulation on the successful funding. I can't help but wonder what would have happened with a little more time, but it went very well even in the limited time.
Creator Glint on May 3, 2012
@Ashley that was a typo, confirmed previously by Richard (somewhere deep down in the comments)
Creator David Miles on May 3, 2012
Congratulations, Richard and Team Steampunk Holmes! :). I just downloaded the first book and can't wait to see how the iPad app turn out! Woohoo!
Creator Ashley on May 3, 2012
Why does every other pledge say 'Delivery: Nov 2012' but the $36 one says 'Delivery: Nov 2014' ?
Creator Glint on May 3, 2012
@Andy I really hope the 249 level provides access to all 7(?) physical books plus all electronic versions of all 7,that is pretty much why I pledged that level. I am quite sure it does. And congrats on reaching the target everyone! Yay!
Creator Ronald Corn on May 3, 2012
Sorry, thanks!
Creator David Schmitz on May 3, 2012
@Ronald That info is in Update #2. :)
Creator Ronald Corn on May 3, 2012
Congrats! Looking forward to reading. It said it you can immediate download from smash words. Will you be sending out a link?
Creator Andy Bates on May 3, 2012
Outstanding. Congratulations Richard!
Creator Brent Disbrow on May 3, 2012
Yay, cool project gets funded!
