GrooveDock features a sculpted acoustic horn, naturally amplifying your iPhone. Made in the USA.

I am GrooveDock, an iPhone stand made of cut vinyl records featuring an acoustic horn. I am designed and made in California. 

We used to cherish music. It used to mean something. We could hold it. Smell it. See it. Now, we just tap, swipe and shuffle it. Sure digital is convenient, but what happened to the romance?

We want to reestablish the tradition, the ritual, the experience of music for the digital age. After all, there is more to music than just bits.

Design

GrooveDock is an iPhone stand all about the music. Its groundbreaking design assembles over 60 pieces cut from 10 recycled records. It is fastened with three aluminum screw posts insuring strength and elegance. A black foam insert isolates the iPhone speaker port which maximizes loudness through the acoustic horn.

GrooveDock features a sculpted acoustic horn–immersing you in lush tunes. Anechoic chamber tests measured the amplification at 7 decibels, or almost twice the loudness of the iPhone's built-in speaker. 

A Case of You

The biggest problem with most iPhone docks in the need to remove your case before docking. GrooveDock is designed with your case in mind. It can dock most popular cases. 

Standard Cabling

Although GrooveDock does not require extra power to naturally amplify your iPhone, it features a standard 30 pin to USB cable for charging and syncing. Your pledge will include a 3' USB female to male extension cable for easy connecting to your computer or charger.

Kickstart the Grooves

We are two recent engineering graduates who love music. We are always listening to tunes on our iPhones. GrooveDock is our vision for bridging the gap between the analog and digital world. 

GrooveDock's philosophy is simple, produce locally and revive the romance of music by adapting analog records to the world of digital music. Each GrooveDock has its own unique character, as it is hand made in California using techniques developed decades ago.

The manufacturer we chose is the premier maker of custom vinyl records. They have been pressing vinyl records for over 30 years, specifically specializing in custom shapes and colors.

FAQ

  • What iPhones fit the GrooveDock?

    Any iPhone released through Mid 2012 will fit the 30 pin model. This includes the first gen, 3G, 3GS, iPhone 4 and 4S.

  • Will the GrooveDock be compatible with the new iPhone coming out this Fall 2012?

    The prototype we have currently pictured fits the iPhone 30 pin models. We have created a 3d model based on roomers, but will have a prototype once the Iphone 5 is out. We have created the iPhone 5 pledge tier and since our project goes until October we hope to be able to release an update with the iPhone 5 prototype once the new iPhone is actually released.

  • Does the GrooveDock cut perfectly good records?
    During the manufacturing of records, there are quite a few that do not make the quality control cut. Depending on the record pressing company, these records either go to waste or they are ground up to be melted down again and to be repressed. These records made of recycled material is called a record made of recycled material. There are two types of records, recycled material, and 100% virgin records. Virgin records are records that are made of 100% non recycled vinyl material. The GrooveDock saves the day and uses those misprints and die cuts them into the shapes that make up the dock.
