Mother Trucker, written and directed by David Wayne Reed, (2004, Late Night Theatre) is the eastbound and lowdown tale of a widow, Ruby Lee Jenkins and her crippled pre-teen, Teddy Bear grappling with a new life on the road after the untimely trucking death of husband and father, Jerry Lee Jenkins.
It is both homage to and a parody of the trucker movie adventures of yore. Though bawdy and raucous, it is a story with a focus on the family.
In Mother Trucker, Ruby drove her pink Peterbilt through a landscape dotted with country crooners, sexy hitchhikers, rig jockeys, Johnny Law and Jesus in pursuit of Alabama No-No Juice.
In Mother Trucker 2: Ride On, Ruby Lee Jenkins is desperate to save her home and her pink Peterbilt truck from foreclosure and takes a new opportunity westward to Las Vegas where everything to lose becomes nothing to lose and everything to gain. Mother Trucker 2 finds the Jenkins family in new terrain where they take the bull by the horns (literally and figuratively) and encounter UFO enthusiasts, casinos, lot lizards, sister wives, rodeos, Barbara Mandrell and love.
Mother Trucker 2: Ride On stars: Ron Megee, Kimberely Queen, Gary Campbell, Darryl Jones, Shannon Michalski, Ashley Otis, Cody Wyoming and David Wayne Reed.

David Wayne Reed has been described as an “actor, writer and a bon vivant” as well as “a one-man classic rock circus.” Reed is a founding member of the late Late Night Theatre where he appeared in over 20 shows playing over 50 roles. He wrote/directed Mother Trucker, adapted/directed Come Back to the 9 to 5 Dolly Parton Dolly Parton, co-wrote/co-directed Supermodels in Space and adapted The Show Formerly Known as Purple Rain (named Best Play of 2005 by the Kansas City Star) and White Nose Christmas (2010). Reed was voted Best Actor: Reader’s Choice and Best Trouper (for work in LNT) in the Pitch Weekly in 2000 and Best Actor/Actress in 2008. Reed is a 2011 Arts KC Inspiration Grant recipient, a Charlotte Street Generative Performing Arts Award nominee and a Resident Artist at the Fishtank Performance Studio.
