Help us reach our goal and make our first production a success!
Boundless Arts Performance Collective is a student-run organization based at the University of Washington which brings performance arts to foster youth in the Seattle community. The members of Boundless Arts include actors, leaders, artists, designers, dancers, teachers, writers, and former foster children. We are all incredibly passionate about our mission and share the belief that art can create a safe and nurturing space for those facing difficult challenges. We have all been touched by the arts, and love sharing the joy and freedom of expression it has brought each of us us with disadvantaged youth.
For the past two school years , Boundless Arts has been running workshops at Treehouse, a Seattle organization which provides a variety of service to foster youth. The content of these workshops has ranged from poetry to fitness to drama to photography to dance. In every workshop, we see the participants blossoming, finding their own voices through art, and having fun in a safe and supportive environment. It has been a joy to see them grow as they try new things.
This June, we will be putting on our first production as a collective. This has always been a goal of our organization, and was encouraged by the kids' desire to act onstage in a real production. The venue will be the beautiful ACT theater in the heart of downtown Seattle and the actors will be a mix of foster youth and UW students. The production and design team is comprised of incredibly talented students and friends of Boundless who are dedicating their time and efforts to the production. The play, Sarah Was Here, is an original story written by workshop leader and two-time Young Playwright's Festival winner Zoe Barker-Aderem and addresses themes relevant to foster youth today:
"Hansel and Gretel won’t find their way back this time. Abandoned in the middle of an unknown city, they must discover how to start a new life and build a new family. But who is this girl only Gretel can see? A new play full of familiar characters that explores the strength of children in impossible situations."
