Bringing back the 1950's ice cream truck.
When you think of the 50’s, what comes to mind? The birth of rock ‘n’ roll. Taking your date to the sock hop? Catching a drive-in movie or racing fast cars around dead man’s curve? Maybe all of those! But, you'd be leaving out one favorite past time. And that’s going to the local malt shop and getting some delicious ice cream with your friends.
Unfortunately, here in San Diego, you won’t find too many local ice cream shops. Sure, you’ll see a big chain ice cream shop every now and then, or one of those trendy frozen yogurt shops. But, something is missing – that genuine neighborhood feel.
Little Deuce Scoop’s goal is to take the good ol’ fashioned malt shop and put it on wheels. I plan on refurnishing an old 1950's Divco ice cream truck, repainting it and doing minor alterations to sell ice cream around the neighborhood. But, I’m going to need your help! As it stands now, Little Deuce Scoop is a one-man operation. Me. I’ve been creating my signature flavors for about a year now and I want to step up my game. I use an Italian-made ice cream freezer that can make about 3 quarts in just over an hour if luck is on my side. From there, I scoop out the ice cream into pints, put them in my freezer, clean out the machine and start all over. It can get pretty tiring quick, and I have the Popeye arms to prove it!

However, I am very proud of what I make. It’s definitely worth all of the time and effort! Even better, I keep the recipe real simple by not adding any of that yucky overly manufactured stuff to it. All it takes is milk and sugar! (with a little help from my own special ingredient!) Add in some mix-ins for each flavor, and you have a delicious treat!
Here are pictures of some of the flavors I offer!
Nutella (with sliced bananas)
Strawberry cheesecake (with sliced strawberries)
Peanut butter chocolate swirl (with chocolate shavings)
I started making ice cream about a year and a half ago for fun and for my family. It kind of just fell into my lap. I purchased my first ice cream maker - one of those hand crank ones you find at your local department store - and started churning! My mom is diabetic, so I experimented with sugar-free recipes at first and branched out from there. I wanted to be able to make all of the traditional malt shop flavors and not try to get too fancy with weird flavor combinations. Now if you take my new found ability to make ice cream with my love of the 1950's, well then you have one nostalgic combination!
Now that my brand name is getting more introduced to the public, and the name is very slowly working its way into everyones mouth, I need to expand in order to spread the deliciousness to more people. This means a small shopping list of requirements so that Little Deuce Scoop can make the neighborhood happy:
1. An industrial sized ice cream batch freezer that can pump out six quarts in twenty minutes. This will run about $3000 to $4000.
2. A large storage freezer – only $200.
3. And of course, the Divco ice cream truck - I honestly project this to be about an $8,000 project. But, I'll take whatever is given to me to put towards it!
All together, I'm looking at needing upwards of $10,000 to fully furnish the truck and machine. However, beggers can't be choosers! So, I've set my goal at a lower, more probable figure. I'll be happy with whatever I may receive thanks to you all!
With your wonderful donations, I can put a big dent into the birth of the neighborhood friendly ice cream truck! Can't you just imagine the new Little Deuce Scoop truck cruising down your street playing the best of doo wop and rock and roll, serving up delicious homemade ice cream to everyone young and old? So if you see me parked on your street, come on by and say hi!
