Update #3: Closing In
Update #2: Building...
We are gathering steam. Thanks to all the backers who've signed on. It is true that Uplift is a Kansas City organization but the stories of the homeless are universal. If you have a Uplift like organization in your city, get involved. If not think about starting one.
Today I spent time with several homeless folks who were at church and getting baptized. It was truly looking at the face of Christ.

Update #1: Please help us tell the story...
I was talking with my wife about this project last night at dinner. I was trying to see where the homeless fit in to our societal structure. After getting to know a lot of these folks and through interviews a picture emerges of choice. A large number of them are homeless by choice. Where does that make them fit in? There not really at the extreme of the societal ladder with the ones who have billions of dollars at the other end. Things aren't that simple. When I started this project that's what I thought. but now I have learned to look at the homeless in a different light.
It is imperative that these stories get told. Right now a very small group of us actively working with the homeless understand them. You need to understand as well. With our desire to erase poverty from the world we need to better understand the needs of the impoverished. In this country a large percentage of homeless want to stay that way. But we still need to help them. How do we do that?
They complain shelters are dangerous and avoid them. You may think that they are just freeloading off us all but I disagree. We have a responsibility to help them. They have traded one set of problems for another. But they are still our brothers and sisters.
Please support this project so we can get the true story out there and try to start building a bridge between us and them.
